The Ultimate Final Showdown: IND vs AUS 2023 World Cup

The 1st Semi Final will be played between India (IND) and New Zealand (NZ).

India (IND) Analysis:

This team is the only team in the tournament who remains undefeated. India being the host and also the fan favourite shows their determination of winning the matches. They were brilliant in all the departments and their fighting spirit is highly commendable. Despite their main all rounder Hardik Pandya missing out it doesn’t change their performance.           

Tournament performance so far:

Rohit Sharma-

The leader of the team is playing the way for which he is known which is his aggressiveness. He gives his team a solid start. His highest score in this World Cup is against Afghanistan. Also his knock against England where he stood in one side and scored a brilliant 87 runs and took his team out from danger. 

Shubman Gill-

This young opener of the team, came back from dengue due to which he had to miss starting two matches. But when he came he showed his consistency with the bat and scored 3 half centuries in the tournament till now. His best was against Sri Lanka where he scored 92 runs. Also he gained the top spot in the ICC ODI Men’s Ranking. 

Though his performance is still not up to the mark, he is regaining his fitness and getting close to his performance for which he is known. This also he showed against Kiwis in the Semis where he scored 80 runs unbeaten. 

Virat Kohli-

The team’s most dependable batter from last decade. He is well known for his chasing skills. It is his best performance in the World Cup and aggressing very good. His best was against Bangladesh and averages close to 100 which is also highly appreciable. He also got a wicket in the last match against Netherlands. 

If he gets going then it will be unstoppable and finish it with a win. He is well known for his converting the runs, singles into doubles and doubles into triples. His running between the wickets is too high. Not only this in the Semis against Kiwis he scored his 50th ODI international century and became the first one to do so, surpassing the previous record of Sachin Tendulkar (49). Also he crossed the 700 runs mark in the World Cup which is the only player to do so in the history.

Shreyas Iyer-

This man started the tournament with some average scores and within the last three matches he became a beast. In his last 4 matches he scored 82, 77, 128 and 105. He also scored the most runs from India in the middle order position in a single World Cup. He strikes well in the death overs. In the match against South Africa, at the start he was a little uncomfortable but when he got settled down then he struck it quite heavily. 

KL Rahul-

Currently the Mr dependable Indian team as he took his team out from danger quite a few times in recent matches. He is playing sensibly and assesses the situation well. He can bat in any position currently holding the 5th spot and there he is also scoring well.

In the last league match against Netherlands he scored the fastest century by an Indian player in the World Cup for which he took just 62 balls. Also in the match against Australia he played a brilliant 97 run knock and took his team to a great victory.   

Suryakumar Yadav-

One of the greatest hard hitters in the T20 format showed his great skills in ODIs also. His 49 runs inning against England helped his team to register a respectable score in the end. He can strike quick runs and has the power to uplift the run rate easily.  

Ravindra Jadeja-

The highly reliable all-rounder in the team has shown great performances with the bowl as well with the bat. He already had his best performance where he got 5 wickets which was against South Africa. When he came to bowl, batsmen mostly found him difficult to play. He also provides the wicket to the team when it is needed the most. 

With the bat he scored well against New Zealand where he made 39 valuable runs with the bat and took his team to a great victory. Also contributed 35 runs against Sri Lanka and 29 runs against South Africa.  

Mohammad Shami-

He carries a huge experience in the international circuit which he showed in his bowling as he just played 6 matches and registered 23 wickets and became the first Indian to get that feat in the World Cup. In his first match he got 5 wickets against New Zealand and then later against South Africa he again got 5 wickets, but his best came against New Zealand in the Semis where he grabbed 7 wickets and performed the best in the World Cup by any Indian.

He is currently the highest wicket-taker from India in the World Cup. His average is under 10 which is also one of the great milestones as it is hard to maintain that.    

Jasprit Bumrah-

He is lethal with the new ball and provides wickets whenever he delivers. His line and length is perfect and he currently took the most wickets in this tournament from his team. His best performance was against Afghanistan. Also his economy is best among the bowlers in the tournament. 

Kuldeep Yadav-

He is the main spinner from the team and shows his strength in the spin department also. His googly is hard to be noticed and got him wickets most of the time. In the pressure situation also he remains calm which eventually helped the team to get some wickets. 

Mohammad Siraj-

In the starting matches he was highly expensive in his spells but as the tournament progressed he improved his length and with that he got wickets also. He is currently the number 1 bowler in the ICC Men’s ODI Ranking. He also holds the most wickets in the first Powerplay since 2021. His best came against Sri Lanka. 

Shardul Thakur-

He played the first three matches for the team but was unable to show any convincing performance. He can also bat well in lower down the order and can bat aggressively.

Ravichandran Ashwin-

He just played a single which was the team’s very first match against Australia and there he showed his huge experience. He was hard to be beaten and can create problems for the batters easily with his bowling. He can also bat well in lower down the order and can contribute with some healthy runs. 

Ishan Kishan-

In the absence of Gill, he played first two matches where in the first match against Australia he was out on a duck while against Afghanistan in the next match scored 47 runs but unable to convert that into a fifty. He showed his excellence with the bat in the past few series. 

Prasidh Krishna-

The young pacer who replaced the injured Hardik Pandya in the 15 members is yet to make his presence into the tournament. He has a sheer pace which can be useful to create problems to the batters.

Australia (AUS) Analysis:

Aussies started the tournament with 2 losses and speculations were high that they might be able to qualify for the Semis. But they changed their mindset and won the remaining 7 matches back to back. They also created records in the World Cup. Their batting has been much better than their bowling, their bowling seems to be little lacking in the starting and death overs. But in the Semis they performed brilliant in their bowling department.            

Tournament performance so far:

David Warner-

He is currently the highest run scorer from the team. He is giving his team a solid start due to which they were able to post a huge score. His highest score was against Pakistan for which he took just 124 balls and hit 14 fours and 9 sixes. He carries a huge experience in the international circuit and also is much familiar with the Indian pitches since he has been playing in Indian Premier League (IPL) from a very long time.  

Travis Head-

He started the tournament with a great blazing century against New Zealand but after that in the remaining matches his bat remained silent and got out early. He is an aggressive batters who bats destructively in the Test matches also, so it is easy to judge him if he gets stuck to the pitch then huge runs can be scored easily. But in the Semis he showed his brilliancy not only in the batting department but also in the bowling department and due to his all round performance team was able to qualify for the Finals.

Mitchell Marsh-

Marsh in the last league match against Bangladesh hit a blistering knock of 177 runs and took his team to a great victory. In the starting few matches he was struggling a little with the bat but with the progress in the tournament he showed his batting talent and scored runs easily.  

Also he can assist the team with his bowling and got 2 wickets till now. 

Steve Smith-

Smith though scored 2 half centuries in the tournament, he is yet to perform well with the bat and show his consistency. His first half century came against Netherlands whereas his 2nd one came in the last league match against Bangladesh, except these two matches he couldn’t perform well and mostly got out early.  

Marnus Labuschagne-

Marnus before starting the World Cup he was playing brilliantly well but as soon as the tournament started he couldn’t get that touch. He got a couple of 40’s besides those half centuries, but unable to convert those into a big one. His best came against England. Now in this crucial match he needs to gear up with his performance.        

Josh Inglis-

In the starting he was batting quite elegant and his 58 runs against Sri Lanka got his team first win in the tournament. But after that he couldn’t get that rhythm back. Most of the time he tries to hit a lofted shot which eventually ends in giving his wicket.  

Glenn Maxwell-

This man proves why he is considered one of the best all-rounders in World Cricket. Despite being injured he took his team out of the danger single handedly against Afghanistan where he scored his career best 201 runs. He is a monster when he keeps hitting it easily. Also he scored the fastest century in the World Cup breaking the earlier record of Aiden Markram who made it in this tournament only. 

His century came against Netherlands where he took just 40 balls only. Not only with the bat he got 5 wickets in the tournament and provided the team with an additional spinner. His best was against South Africa where he got 2 wickets by giving away only 34 runs in the league round.    

Pat Cummins-

The skipper of the team has shown why he is meant to be the leader of the team. He is a great bowler which he showed by grabbing wickets but his batting makes him more popular in this World Cup. He can bat aggressively where he scored 37 runs in just 14 balls and against Afghanistan he scored only 12 runs in 68 runs and stood like a pillar in the pitch to help Maxwell get par the target. 

Mitchell Starc-

This tournament is not going so well for him till now. His economy is over 6 which is hardly seen by him. In the very first match he showed some good bowling but after that he was played easily by the batters. Also he is missing his line and length. Most of his wickets came in the death overs and also got beaten harshly by them. But his spell against Proteas in the Semis was fantastic as he grabbed 3 wickets and performed his best in the tournament.

Adam Zampa-

He is currently the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup. He was expensive in the starting two matches but after that he gained his momentum and got wickets in each match he played. He also made a record of getting 3 or more wickets in back to back 5 matches.  

Zampa is the key bowler for Aussies in the current scenario and slows down the run rate in middle overs. 

Josh Hazlewood-

Hazlewood started the tournament with a brilliant 3 wickets against India but he didn’t carry that momentum and was mostly expensive despite getting some wickets. In the later half of the tournament he got his rhythm back and bowled some economic spells. 

Sean Abbott-

He played the last match where he took 2 wickets against Sri Lanka but was little expensive in his spell. 

Marcus Stoinis-

He is a well known all-rounder of the team and basically known for his power hitting. But this isn’t shown in this tournament and he got out early. With the bowl he took 4 wickets with an economy of 7.52.  

Cameron Green-

He is also known for his destructive approach but couldn’t show it much. His best was against England. He can also do openings as he did in the past where he batted aggressively from the beginning. 

Alex Carey-

Due to his inconsistency with the bat he was dropped and Inglis got the chance. He played the first match against India where he got out in the 2nd ball.

The match will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. This is a pure batting surface and 3 out of 4 matches in the World Cup were won by the chasing team. Huge runs can be scored easily in this pitch, therefore expecting to be a high scoring match. Pacers will get some assist in the starting few overs. 

Weather will be clear and sunny throughout the match day. No chance of rain is expected. Temperature at daytime might be approx 33 degree celsius while it will go down to 19 degree celsius approx during evening.
