The 2011 ODI World Cup joint highest wicket taker, Zaheer Khan, might be seen in a mentorship and bowling coach role for the 2025 IPL season.
He has been approached by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for those two positions. After Gautam Gambhir joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2023, the position of mentor was vacant for Lucknow and now they wanted Zaheer to do the role.
Also Morne Morkel who was earlier the bowling coach of Super Giants has been appointed as the bowling coach of India, due to which he has to leave the position of bowling coach from the IPL franchise and the management also wanted that the former Indian pacer join the team before the 2025 season.
If the things went well according to the talking, then he will be joining the coaching unit of Justin Langer (head coach), Jonty Rhodes (fielding coach), Lance Klusener (assistant coach) and Adam Voges (assistant coach).
He played 309 (200 ODIs, 92 Tests and 17 T20s) international matches and took 610 (311 tests, 282 ODIs and 17 T20s) international wickets. He has also played 100 IPL matches and got 117 wickets there. He last played IPL in 2017. Also he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).
Not only this he was the bowling coach of Mumbai Indians (MI) earlier. He was also considered as the next Indian bowling coach under the head coach of Gautam Gambhir but things didn’t change according to the circumstances and Morkel became the next coach.
