Due to political tensions in Bangladesh, the Women’s T20 World Cup has been shifted to UAE (United States of Emirates). The tournament will start from October 3rd and the final will be played on October 20th.
Earlier Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe also showed interest in hosting the tournament but the final call went in favour of UAE. Although the hosting rights will be given to Bangladesh.
ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice said,
“It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event. I would like to thank the team at the BCB for exploring all avenues to try and enable the event to be hosted in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from the governments of a number of the participating teams meant that wasn’t feasible.
However, they will retain hosting rights. We look forward to taking an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future.”
He further added and thanks the Cricket Board of Emirates for taking the initiative to make the tournament easy in their country and said,
“I'd also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in to host on behalf of the BCB and Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their generous offers of support, and we look forward to seeing ICC global events in both of those countries in 2026.”
Due to political turmoil in Bangladesh various countries like Australia, England and New Zealand showed some serious concern over participating in the upcoming tournament. After seeing this, ICC had to take this strong decision for shifting the venue.
Final schedule of the tournament will be revealed soon.
