Shami’s exit from Test series, Chahar withdraws

Mohammad Shami has been ruled out from the Test series against South Africa as he didn’t regain his fitness from the ankle injury. There will be 2 test matches which will start from 26th December. 

The BCCI Medical team has declined his full fitness and as a result will remain out from the series against Proteas. 

While Indian all-rounder Deepak Chahar has taken back his name from the ODI series due to family medical reasons. His father is not well and wanted to engage with his treatment fully. Akash Deep was named as his replacement. BCCI said, “Chahar has informed the BCCI that he will not be available for the upcoming ODI series due to a family medical emergency. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Akash Deep as his replacement.” 

On the other hand, Shami’s replacement has not been announced yet. 

Shreyas Iyer will only play the first ODI against South Africa which is on 17th December, then he will join the test squad for the practice session. He will remain out from the last two ODI matches (19th and 21st December). BCCI said, “After the conclusion of the first ODI in Johannesburg on 17th December, Shreyas Iyer will join the Test squad to prepare for the Test series.”
