Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after a long reign of 12 years got a victory in Wankhede stadium after defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by 24 runs.
Knight Riders posted 169/10 in 19.5 overs and in reply Mumbai posted 145/10 in 18.5 overs.
Kolkata won their last match where they got past DC easily while Mumbai lost in their last encounter in a close contest against LSG.
After winning the toss, Hardik Pandya chooses to bowl first.
For the first time in this season Knight Riders struggled at the start as they lost 5 wickets in just 57 runs. Then a fantastic partnership of 83 runs for the 6th wicket was added by Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey.
Venkatesh scored 70 runs in 52 balls and hit 6 fours and 3 sixes while Manish scored 42 runs in 31 balls and hit 2 fours and 2 sixes. Due to these two contributions they managed to get close to 170.
Jasprit Bumrah again showed his class by grabbing 3 wickets in his 3.5 overs by giving away only 18 runs. Now he again topped the purple cap with 17 wickets to his credit. Nuwan Thushara also got 3 wickets. Hardik Pandya got 2 wickets while Piyush Chawla got 1 wicket.
During the chase, Mumbai also struggled at the start as they lost 6 wickets in just 71 runs. Then Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 56 runs in 35 balls. Till the time he was in the crease, it was looking like an easy chase for the team. But after his departure the things went out of their hands. He hit 6 fours and 2 sixes in his knock.
Mitchell Starc with his brilliance grabbed 4 wickets in his 3.5 overs by giving away 33 runs. Varun Chakaravarthy, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell all got 2 wickets each.
