Shreyas Iyer’s IPL setback, might miss initial matches

Team India’s strong middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer, might miss starting a few matches in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to back injury.

According to the reports in Times of India, Iyer faced some back problem during the final of the Ranji Trophy, where during the 2nd innings of Mumbai he took break twice in his 95 runs knock and the physiotherapist of Mumbai took care of him. Adding to his injury, he didn’t come to the field on the 4th day of the match.

Some sources of TOI also revealed that, “It’s not looking good. It’s the same back injury which has got aggravated. It’s unlikely that he will take the field on day 5 of the Ranji Trophy Final. He is in danger of missing the initial matches of the IPL.”

Iyer was in the headlines a few days back when he was removed from the central contract of the BCCI. The reason cited was that he told the board that he was not fit enough to play the quarter-final for Mumbai in the Ranji. Later BCCI told the NCA (National Cricket Academy) to send the reports of Shreyas in which he was seen completely fit and the board immediately took hard action against him.

After that he was seen playing in the Semi-final of the Ranji.

Iyer also missed the last year IPL season due to the same reason and Nitish Rana became the leader of the team. He represented Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KKR’s first match in the 2024 season will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 23, in Kolkata.
