Shami’s surgery success, will miss IPL and T20 World Cup

Indian star pacer, Mohammad Shami went for his ankle surgery in London on Monday. Now after the successful surgery in his right ankle, more specifically in his right Achilles tendon, he posted a photo in his social media, where he said he will get healed but it will take some time.

The pacer is out from the international circuit after the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he performed brilliantly and was the highest wicket-taker in that tournament. During that tournament, he faced a problem in his right ankle but he kept playing by taking injections.

Just a few days back, an official statement by BCCI where it was declared that Shami was in London where he took injections for the injury but it didn’t heal him and the last option left was surgery.

Now the surgery has been done successfully, he will need at least 7-8 months to get back into his feet properly. Therefore it clearly indicates that he will miss the upcoming 2024 IPL which will start from 22nd March. He is playing for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League.

The BCCI released the partial schedule of the 2024 IPL as the full schedule will be revealed after the confirmation of the general elections that will be held in India. In that partial schedule GT will play 5 matches – March 24 (MI), March 26 (CSK), March 31 (SRH), April 4 (PBKS) and March 7 (LSG).

Addition to this, the Indian pacer will not only miss the franchise league but will also miss the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup which will start from June 1 in West Indies and USA. Since he will undergo a recovery process, he will be unable to join the squad then.
