Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) put their foot forward towards the Playoffs after defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 27 runs. With this Bengaluru finished 4th in the points table.
Royal Challengers scored 218/5 in 20 overs and in reply Super Kings posted 191/7 in 20 overs. For the qualification Chennai needed to score at least 201 runs to get into the next round, but they failed to reach there.
The first match in this season was played between these two teams where the men in yellow chased down the target quite easily.
Chennai, after winning the toss, opted to bowl first.
Once again, Virat Kohli set the rhythm with his destructive gameplay as he scored 47 runs in 29 balls. In his knock he hit 3 fours and 4 sixes and had a strike rate of 162.07. He was well supported by the skipper Faf du Plessis who scored a brilliant half-century. He scored 54 runs in 39 balls and hit 3 fours and 3 sixes.
Rajat Patidar showed destructive batting and scored 41 runs in just 23 balls. Cameron Green got the hard hitting role as he scored unbeaten 38 runs in 17 balls, with a strike rate of 223.53.
Shardul Thakur got 2 wickets while Tushar Deshpande and Mitchell Santner got 1 wicket each.
In the chase, Chennai struggled a bit as they lost 2 early wickets in just 19 runs. But a fantastic partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Ajinkya Rahane, pulled up 66 runs for the 3rd wicket. Rachin scored his maiden IPL half-century after scoring 61 runs in 37 balls and hit 5 fours and 3 sixes.
But Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni put up a great show in the death overs as they scored 61 runs in just 26 balls. But unfortunately they couldn’t get the par score for the qualification. Jadeja got unbeaten at 42 runs while Dhoni scored 25 runs.
Yash Dayal got 2 wickets while Mohammad Siraj, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell and Lockie Ferguson got 1 wicket each.
