Mumbai Indians (MI) last ball magic in WPL opener

A perfect start to the season by Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Women’s Premier League where they beat Delhi Capitals (DC) in the last ball by 4 wickets. The defending champion started their season with a victory. 

Earlier the toss was won by Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet and she opted to bowl first.

Delhi lost two early wickets in just 67 runs. Then Alice Capsey (75 runs) turned the things on for the team as she played a solid knock. She played 53 balls in which she hit 9 fours and 3 sixes. She was dropped earlier by S Sanjana. Jemimah Rodrigues (42 runs) also helped her to get a good score for the team. Together they put 74 runs for the 3rd wicket. 

At the end DC got a huge total of 171 runs by losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. 

Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr got 2 wickets each while Shabnim Ismail got 1 wicket. 

During the chase, the player of the tournament in WPL 23 Hayley Matthews departed without scoring any runs. Then the keeper batter Yastika Bhatia (57 runs) held the nerves for her team which later got supported by captain Harmanpreet Kaur (55 runs). Both of them provided 56 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Amelia Kerr (24 runs) also put some healthy shots towards the ends but it was S Sanjana (6 runs not out) who got the final touch. In the last ball 5 runs were required and she just put the ball outside the rope and got a clinical victory for her team. 

Mumbai scored 173 runs by losing 6 wickets in 20 overs.
