Match 33: MI vs PBKS | Full Analysis | Pitch Report | Best 11

The 33rd match of the tournament between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). The match between them will start at 7:30 P.M. (IST).

Teams Analysis:

Mumbai Indians (MI):

MI is currently at the 8th position in the points table. They won 2 out of 6 matches and lost 4. The two matches which they won were purely dominant. Except for a few players, most of them are not able to perform up to the mark. In the last also only Rohit Sharma looked great against CSK and none of the other batters showed support to him from the other end.

Rohit Sharma is showing his consistency with the bat and scored the most runs for his team till now. He scored 261 runs till now which include 1 century, that came against CSK in the last match that they played. His strike rate is 167.31 and looked aggressive in most of the matches. His partner Ishan Kishan also played decently till having one half-century to his name and scored 184 runs. His best came against RCB where he scored 69 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav has scored two ducks and one half-century till now. He is considered to be one of the most destructive players as he played some different shots which were unable to pick easily. Though he got out without scoring any runs, still he is a great threat to the bowlers out there. Tilak Varma is another batter from the team who is little consistent with the bat as he got 174 runs under his credit. He played a fantastic knock against SRH where he scored 64 runs.

Hardik Pandya looked like he felt little pressure for the captaincy role. This depicts in this performance that he was not able to perform decently till now. He got 131 runs with the bat and with the bowl he got 3 wickets with a drastic economy of 12. He needs to step up as he is the team’s main all-rounder. Tim David’s performance has not been that good for which he is known. His best till now is 45 runs which was against DC.

Looking at their bowling unit except Jasprit Bumrah, none of the other bowlers provide economical spells to the team. Due to which opposite team finds them easy to score runs. Bumrah is currently in the list of purple cap as is 2nd in the list with 10 wickets under his name. His brilliancy can be easily mapped as his economy is just above 6 (6.08). Whenever he came to bowl, it almost ended in an economical one.

Gerald Coetzee is the other pacer who is helping him well from the other in terms of wickets taken as he grabbed 9 till now. But his economy tends towards the higher side which is 10.27. Akash Madhwal was also unable to perform well till now as he got 4 wickets in 4 matches with an economy of 10.6.

Spinners Piyush Chawla and Shreyas Gopal haven’t been so effective with their respective spells.

Probable playing 11 for the match:

Hardik Pandya ©, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Mohammad Nabi, Shreyas Gopal, Jasprit Bumrah, Gerald Coetzee.

(Impact Player: Akash Madhwal)

Punjab Kings (PBKS):

They are currently standing 7th in the points table. They also won 2 matches out of 6 and lost 4. Their most of the matches ended in a close encounter. Here also some of the players are performing well. A collective team performance hasn’t been seen. In their last encounter where it was looking an easy victory for them but RR had some other plans for them in the death overs and made it reverse.

Now team’s main skipper Shikhar Dhawan will not be seen in this also as he had a shoulder injury and at least need 7 days or more to recover. The absence of him from the team is definitely the major setback as he was the highest run-scorer from the side. Sam Curran has been given the responsibility for the leadership in his absence.

Curran also started the tournament with a brilliant half-century against DC but after he looked out of sight from his batting. He has only got 126 runs with the bat and the strike rate also gets decreased which is 120. But with his bowling he looked a little decent as he got 8 wickets till now, but still the economy is high which is 8.44. Jonny Bairstow has been miserable with the bat this season as he got only 96 runs in 6 matches and the highest was 42 runs.

Shashank Singh has been fantastic with the bat till now as he scored 146 runs with a healthy strike rate of 184.81. He came to bat mostly in the death overs and provided valuable runs to the team. Team’s other death over specialist Ashutosh Sharma has been pure destruction towards the death overs as he got 95 runs in 3 matches with a strike rate of 197.92. Both of them contribute to the run department pretty well.

Liam Livingstone who is known for his power hitting, hasn’t been contributing runs with the bat well. He has only 104 runs in 4 matches. He needs to step in for a winning contribution. Other batters Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma also were able to perform and got out early in most of the matches.

Kagiso Rabada  and Arshdeep Singh have been the team’s most successful bowlers as both of them took 9 wickets till now. Rabada is improving his spell day  by day due to which it is currently under 8 (7.96), while Arshdeep’s economy is on the higher side which is 9.25.

Harshal Patel has been in the runs provider list of bowlers. His economy is 10.55 and has taken 7 wickets till now. Spinner Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar have yet to perform better. Harpreet’s economy is though the best in the team as he has 7.2 till now but Rahul’s economy is poorest in the team with 11.38.
