Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam reveals in a recent interview in the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) that he is still not satisfied with the milestone he achieved till now.
Babar Azam is currently one of the best batsmen in Pakistan and holds several records for the country. After some poor starts in the ODI World Cup, he ended the season on a good note. Then against New Zealand in a T20 series he hit 3 half-centuries back to back in the first three matches and got his form back.
After completing the series against Kiwis he went to Bangladesh for the BPL where he scored a half century in the very first match that he played. Then in the interview he was asked that whether he changed something in his batting or improved as he got some low scores in recent past, he replied
“Failure is bound to come and you have to be ready for that too. It is not that I can be satisfied where I am standing today and stop doing all the hard work that I am doing. I try to learn something new every day and apply it to my batting and execute it in the nets to see whether it is helping me or not. It can be mindset or a shot or a different kind of practice. I don't believe that I can be satisfied with what I have achieved, and all the time I try to reach a new destination and [think] how I can improve myself. You will be stranded as a batter if you are satisfied with yourself. If you want to achieve anything, you have to improve on a day-to-day basis.”
Since Pakistan didn’t perform well in the ODI World Cup and also he was not able to perform that much better as expected. The whole team including him was not in good mood and told how to deal with these type of situations,
“Yes of course I talk with a lot of people. I also analyze where I am going wrong by seeing my own videos in the nets and having discussion over it. But I feel you are your biggest coach. Another person can tell you about technique but you have to understand from within where you are making a mistake and how you can rectify it because you know best what mistakes you are committing as a batter.”
Babar is playing for Rangpur Riders in the BPL.
