Delhi Capitals (DC) showed their dominance over Uttar Pradesh Warriorz (UPW) as they registered their first victory in this season of WPL. Delhi won the match by 9 wickets.
Earlier both the teams lost their respective matches. Capitals lost against MI in the season opener by 4 wickets whereas Warriors lost against RCB in the last ball by 2 runs.
Here DC after winning the toss, opted to bowl first.
Warriorz were unable to stand against the DC bowlers. They were unable to build big partnerships. Shweta Sehrawat (45 runs) scored the most runs for her team. She hit 5 fours and a six in her inning and played 42 balls. She didn’t get any support from the other end, due to which the team managed only 119 runs in 20 overs, after losing 9 wickets.
Bowling department of Delhi was highly commendable, as they restricted their opponent to a well below par score. Marizanne Kapp got the first 3 wickets of the match and later got supported by Radha Yadav who took brilliant 4 wickets. Annabel Sutherland and Arundhati Reddy shared 1 wicket each.
During the chase, Capitals got full command in their batting. Their openers Shafali Verma (62 runs not out) and skipper Meg Lanning (51 runs) put 119 runs for the 1st wicket. Both of their contributions took the score equal to that of UP.
Then Jemimah Rodrigues (4 runs not out) hit the winning boundary and achieved the targeted score in 14.3 overs by scoring 123 runs by losing 1 wicket.
Sophie Ecclestone got the only wicket for her team.
