The 59th match of the tournament between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Giants (CSK). The match between them will start at 7:30 P.M. (IST).
The last year finalists, when both the teams met then Chennai got an easy win over Gujarat where Shivam Dube’s brilliant half-century rewarded him with the Player of the Match.
Teams Analysis:
Chennai Super Kings (CSK):
They are currently at the 4th place in the point table and to maintain their place into the top 4, they need to win all their remaining three so that their qualification chances will be quite easy. In the absence of their prime bowlers Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman, their bowling unit might be a little weak especially in the death overs.
Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is in his best form and is currently in the 2nd place in the list of orange cap with 541 runs, just one run behind Virat Kohli. In the last 7 innings he was mostly consistent with his form and provided healthy runs at the start. With the strike rate of 147.01, he scored 1 century and 4 half-centuries. Ajinkya Rahane, on the other hand is struggling with his form and is constantly failing to get some knocks with the bat. In some matches he got some 20s and 30s, but was not able to convert those into a big one. As a result, he only managed 208 runs in 1o innings he played.
Shivam Dube, after getting a solid start of the season he got out on a duck in the two matches and that too in the first ball he played. He is a good striker of the ball and is mostly seen in destructive gameplay. His strike rate is 170.73 and has scored 350 runs in which 3 fifties were included. Daryl Mitchell is slowly getting back to his rhythm and has managed 229 runs in 10 innings he played with a strike rate of 134.71 and only 50+ once.
Ravindra Jadeja is the team’s main all-rounder and his contribution is highly valuable in both the departments. In the last match against Punjab, his brilliance in both the departments got the victory to the team. With the bat he got 202 runs in which one half-century was included and with the bowl he has 8 wickets to his name with the economy of 7.26. MS Dhoni added some valuable runs towards the end with his hard hitting and has a strike rate of 224.49.
In the absence of Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman, Tushar Deshpande and Shardul Thakur had to take the charge. Pathirana bid farewell to CSK after he was engaged with the injury while Mustafizur left CSK due to national duty. Deepak Chahar is also having injury and his returning time is still not clear.
Tushar Deshpande has taken 12 wickets with an economy of 8.67. He is mostly expensive in his spells and gave easy runs to the during the death overs. Simarjeet Singh and Shardul Thakur need to give their 100% contribution in the pace department.
Probable playing 11 for the match:
Ruturaj Gaikwad ©, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Daryl Mitchell, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (wk), Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner, Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande, Richard Gleeson.
(Impact Player: Simarjeet Singh)
Gujarat Titans (GT):
They are currently at the bottom of the points table with 8 points in 11 matches where they won 4 and lost 7. If they lost one match out of their remaining three, then it would confirm their playoff exit from this season. So to maintain their chances they have to win all their remaining matches. Except for a few players, the remaining players are playing so horrible this season which resulted in a great downfall for the two time finalist.
Wriddhiman Saha’s drastic season is continuing as the keeper batter is unable to put runs on the board. Out of 9 innings in which he batted, he was dismissed 8 times in the powerplay. His early dismissal has put the team into pressure from the start. He has only managed 136 runs till now. Skipper Shubman Gill has a very poor season going on. In the last 5 innings he scored 8, 35, 6, 16 and 2. With 322 runs in 11 knocks he got past 50+ twice. His strike rate also dipped a little low which is currently 137.61.
B Sai Sudharsan is the only batter in the team who is mostly consistent with the bat and scored some well runs. He is currently the team’s highest scorer with 424 runs in which he scored 2 half-centuries. He has a striker rate of 131.68 in this season. David Miller on the other hand has got some good knocks in the last three matches. In 8 innings he managed 194 runs with the strike rate of 151.56. His best was against DC where he scored 55 runs.
Rahul Tewatia provided some valuable runs towards the end of the team’s innings. With 188 runs he has a strike rate of 145.74 in 9 innings. While Shahrukh Khan looked little confident in the last match against RCB where he scored 37 runs in 20 balls.
Rashid Khan has performed decently in this season till now with 8 wickets to his credit. He has an economy of 8.29. He also credited some scores with the bat and played a match winning knock against RR where he scored unbeaten 24 runs.
Mohit Sharma is team’s highest wicket taker with 10 wickets to his name. But he is mostly expensive in his spell and as a result his economy touches 11.29. Noor Ahmed grabbed 9 wickets till now and has an economy just over 8 (8.07).
Joshua Little in the last match against RCB where it was looking an easy win for Bengaluru but his 4 wickets made a strong comeback in the match but unfortunately it slipped from their hand at the end.
Probably playing 11 for the Match:
Shubman Gill ©, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), B Sai Sudharsan, Shahrukh Khan, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Vijay Shankar, Rashid Khan, Mohit Sharma, Noor Ahmed, Sandeep Warrier.
(Impact Player: Joshua Little)
