Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka has been ruled out from the World Cup due to the injury. Chamika Karunaratne who travelled with the team as a reserve player now joined the main squad.
Kusal Mendis, the vice-captain of the team is named as the captain for Sri Lanka. He earlier did captainship in one of the warm up matches.
Shanaka had a quadriceps tear during the match against Pakistan and it was expected that the average time taken to recover might be around 3-4 weeks and during that time the league matches will come to an end.
After Wanindu Hasaranga, this might be a big blow for them.
Sri Lanka played 2 matches and in both the matches they lost. First against South Africa by 102 runs and then against Pakistan by 6 wickets. In both the matches, batting looked solid as they posted 300+ runs but in bowling they conceded easy runs to the opposition.
Now their next match will be against Australia on 16th October in Lucknow.
