Chris Woakes‘ 4 wickets helped England to get some advantage at the end of the 1st day of the 4th Test. Australia were 299/8 at the end of the day. Australia is leading the Ashes series by 2-1. Firstly England won the toss and chose to field first. His decision of choosing to bowl was little different since in Manchester the records says that the team who choses bowl first would result in defeat. Let’s see how the match goes.
Broad again strikes by taking the opener, but this time it was not Warner it was Khawaja. Australia loses their 1st and he goes after making 3 runs. (15-1). Then 46 runs were added for the 2nd wicket and Woakes strikes by dismissing Warner. He made 32 runs. (61-2). After that Smith and Labuschagne played some steady shots and took their team across 100 runs. But eventually Wood came and took the wicket of Smith. He goes for 41 runs. (120-3).
After scoring his half century, Labuschagne got beaten by the delivery of Moeen Ali and Ali immediately goes for the review and he succeeds. Labuschagne contributed 51 runs. (183-4). Later Broad took his 600th Test wicket by dismissing the in-form batsman Travis Head. he departed after scoring 48 runs. (189-5). The 6th wicket partnership stands for 65 runs between Green and Marsh, which was the highest for the day. Woakes came and took away Green’s wicket. He only contributed 16 runs. (254-6).
In that same over, Woakes again strikes and this time he takes the well settled batter Marsh. He scored 51 runs in 60 balls which includes 7 fours and a six. (255-7). As the match was in the last overs, then again Woakes strikes and gets the Australian keeper Carey. He made 20 runs. (294-8). At last Starc and Cummins survived for the last 2 overs before the end of the day. Starc is at 23 runs and Cummins is at 1 run.
Woakes shines with his brilliant spell of 19 overs and took 4 important Aussies. Stuart Broad also achieves a great milestone by taking 600 Test wickets and took 2 in day 1. Wood and Ali got 1 wicket each.
