Uttar Pradesh Warriorz (UPW) got their first victory in the WPL after two consecutive losses. They beat defending champion Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets. First loss for Mumbai in this season.
After back to back two losses it must be a relief for the Warriorz to get back into the track. They lost their last match against DC by 9 wickets whereas Mumbai won their last match against GG by 5 wickets.
In absence of Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt led Mumbai where after losing the toss they got to bat first.
Hayley Matthews (55 runs), last year’s player of the series, got her rhythm back and scored a brilliant half-century. Yastika Bhatia (26 runs) and her team had a superb start as they both posted 50 runs for the 1st wicket. Then in the end Amelia Kerr (23 runs) and Issy Wong (15 runs not out) took their team to 161 runs in 20 overs by losing 6 wickets.
All the bowlers of Warriorz Anjali Sarvani, Grace Harris, Sophie Ecclestone, Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad got 1 wicket each.
During the chase, a splendid start to the Warriorz as they posted 94 runs in 9.1 overs for the first. Openers Kiran Navgire (57 runs) and skipper Alyssa Healy (33 runs) guided the team to a blasting start. Navgire played 31 balls in which she hit 6 fours and 4 sixes.
In the end, Grace Harris (38 runs not out) and Deepti Sharma (27 runs not out) got the final milestone for the team in 16.3 overs by scoring 163 runs after losing 3 wickets.
Issy Wong got 2 wickets and Amelia Kerr got 1 wicket.
