Teams Analysis

Sri Lanka (SL):

Since in this tournament batters are struggling to score runs, Lankans also had this same problem in both of their matches. Their batters struggled to score easy runs with the bat while their bowling has performed a little bit better.

Pathum Nissanka is the only batter who has a strike rate above 100 in this tournament for the team. He scored 50 runs in 2 matches and has a strike rate of 138.89 and the highest was against Bangladesh where he scored 47 runs in just 28 balls. His opening partner Kusal Mendis has managed just 29 runs with a strike rate of 76.32. Mendis is well known for his hard hitting skills from the start but in this tournament like other batters he was faced with heavy challenges.

Charith Asalanka who doesn’t like defensive gameplay has a strike rate this tournament of 83.33 and scored only 25 runs.

All rounders Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka struggled in their batting but had some positives in their bowling. Mathews scored 32 runs and has a strike rate of 91.43 while with the bowl though he didn’t get any wickets but his economy is 5.33. Shanaka on the other hand, had a poor strike rate of 70.59 and managed just 12 runs with the bat and with the bowl he got 1 wicket and had an economy of 4.25.

Nuwan Thushara is currently the team’s leading wicket-taker with 5 wickets to his name. In the last match against Bangladesh he was the man behind the team’s comeback for sometime in the match after taking 4 wickets in 4 overs by giving away only 18 runs. His economy in this tournament is 5.14 till now.

Skipper Wanindu Hasaranga who is a well reputed all-rounder from the team, hasn’t got the spark with the bat as he got two ducks in two matches. But with the ball he has some positives as he took 4 wickets till now with an economy of 7.36.

Probable Playing 11 of Sri Lanka (SL):

Wanindu Hasaranga ©, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Kamindu Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara.

Nepal (NEP):

Nepal played just one match in this tournament and that too resulted in a loss. Their batting unit collapsed dramatically while the bowlers tried to put up the show, but the target was that low due to which they failed towards the end. One of the main positives of them will be the return of Sandeep Lamichhane, whose visa was earlier rejected and now after getting the approval he joined the team in the net and might be seen in the Playing 11.

Skipper Rohit Paudel leading from the front in the batting department after scoring most runs with the bat from the team in the first match. He scored hard fighting 35 runs but for that he played 37 balls. He is one of the youngest leaders in the history of ICC T20 World Cup

The hard hitter opener Kushal Bhurtel failed to show the destruction in the first match after scoring 7 runs in 10 balls. He is well known for his aggressive gameplay from the start and this might be seen against the Lankans. His partner and keeper Aasif Sheikh also departed early against Netherlands. He basically goes aggressive after being settled and takes his time to get there.

The destructive all-rounders Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee were unable to get that show with the bat. But Airee looked brilliant in the bowling department after grabbing 1 wickets in his 2 overs and only conceded 6 runs. Malla has a strike rate of over 160 and Airee has a strike rate close to 150, due to which they can be easily shown the power hitting in the death overs.

Karan KC, their most experienced bowler in this format has taken 89 wickets till now and is known for breaking partnerships in the PowerPlay. In the first match he was wicketless with the stats of 3 overs 17 runs. His opening spell partner Sompal Kami got one wicket in his 4 overs and was highly economical in his spell as he conceded only 18 runs.

Probable Playing 11 of Nepal (NEP):

Rohit Paudel ©, Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh (wk), Anil Sah, Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sompal Kami, Sandeep Lamichhane, Karan KC, Gulshan Jha, Abinash Bohara.
