Sri Lanka cricket suspended by ICC

Sri Lanka cricket (SLC) on Friday was suspended by ICC due to the government interference on the internal matters of the boards.

Now Sri Lanka will not be able to participate in any ICC events until further notice. They will also not be given any funds till January. On Friday the meeting was held online between the board members of the Cricket Council and they decided about the situation and involvement of the government in the cricket of Sri Lanka and then after a lot of discussion they finally landed on a decision to make a temporary suspension.

Now Cricket Council quarterly meeting will be held in Ahmedabad on 18-21 November and there they will decide what will be the future of the SLC and what further scenarios might be taken place into.

Sri Lanka already ended their World Cup campaign after finishing 9th in the points table with 4 points in 9 matches as they only managed 2 wins in the tournament. Also if they remain in 9th position till the end of the league stage then they will not be available to participate in the Champions Trophy which will be held in 2025 as only top 8 teams of the league stage of the World Cup will be participating.

They released a statement in which it was clearly mentioned about the suspension and they will decide about the future of SLC in upcoming board meetings. In that meeting Shammi Silva, President of SLC will be present there on 18-21 November.

Earlier the sports minister of Sri Lanka Roshan Ranasinghe has terminated all the members of the SLC board and put Arjuna Ranatunga the head of an interim committee initiated by them. But later Sri Lanka court gave their verdict about this matter and granted 14 days stay order to the members of SLC.
