Sobhana Asha’s five wickets took Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a thrilling victory. They defeated Uttar Pradesh Warriorz (UPW) in a close encounter by 2 runs.
It was also RCB’s 3rd victory in the history of WPL.
UPW skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss and she opted to bowl first.
The Royals had a long batting line-up but they were struggling at the start as they lost 3 early wickets in just 54 runs. Just then Sabbineni Meghana (53 runs) and Richa Ghosh (62 runs) put 71 runs for 4th wicket. Ghosh was looking more aggressive as she played just 37 balls and hit 12 boundaries.
Due to the contributions of these two Challengers were able to get a competitive score at the end and scored 157 runs by losing 6 wickets in 20 overs.
Rajeshwari Gayakwad got 2 wickets while Grace Harris, Tahila McGrath, Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone got 1 wicket each.
During the chase Warriorz also struggled and at one point they lost 3 wickets in just 49 runs. From there Grace Harris (38 runs) and Shweta Sehrawat (31 runs) pulled up the things for the team, where both of them contributed 77 runs for the 4th wicket.
But after their departures, the team suddenly collapsed as wickets fell one after the other. In the end Deepti Sharma (13 runs not out) and Poonam Khemnar (14 runs) tried to get par the target but they fell a little short.
In the end Warriorz scored 155 runs in 20 overs by losing 7 wickets.
Asha bowles WPL‘s best bowling figure as he got 5 wickets by giving away just 22 runs in her 4 overs. Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham got 1 wicket each.
