Shahid Afridi’s explosive statement on Gambhir

Former Pakistan’s all-rounder Shahid Afridi has some positive thoughts for the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir on his selection for the post.

Recently Gambhir got elected as the head coach of India as Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended after the 2024 T20 World Cup. He was a successful mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as under his mentorship the team lifted the IPL trophy in 2024 season.

The rivalry between Afridi and Gambhir is world wide famous as the duo were involved in a heated argument during the 2007 ODI series in Kanpur. After that both of them didn’t like each other as some words were kept exchanging between them in several interviews. But during a recent show on Star Sports, the all-rounder revealed about the Indian head coach,

“I think it’s a big opportunity, and we need to see how he makes the most of it. I have seen his interviews, and he talks positively and is very straightforward.”

Gambhir is not only successful as a mentor but he was a key player during the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup finals, as he scored the highest score from the side and took his team to victory.

Under his leadership, KKR won two IPL trophies, one in 2012 and another in 2014. Before becoming the mentor of Kolkata he was the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) from 2022-2023 and in both the seasons his team finished 3rd in the points table.
