One of Australia’s fierce bowlers, Mitchell Starc, revealed the bad day for the team in the T20 World Cup as Rohit Sharma clinched the victory from them.
Aussies lost the crucial match against India in the Super 8 round, due to which they failed to qualify for the Semi Final in the 2024 T20 World Cup. They lost the match by 24 runs and their hopes almost finished from that match for reaching the next round.
In that match, Starc got 29 runs in an over in which Rohit hit 4 sixes and a four in that over. He finally ended up taking the skipper’s wicket but it got little too late as he scored 92 runs in just 41 balls in which 7 fours and 8 sixes were included and has a strike rate of 224.39.
In a recent appearance on the LiSTNR podcast, Australian pacer about the incident in that over, he said,
“I’ve played a lot against him. He had a good tournament, especially in our game. I think he targeted that wind in St. Lucia as well. If you look at the runs from each end, one end went for a lot more than the other. I bowled from that end. I bowled five bad balls and he hit them all for six.”
He also added about the 206 runs target that India put against them, which might be chaseable as the wickets were helpful for the batters to get runs on the board easily. But the bowling department of the Men In Blue, restricted them to get that par score. He said,
“We thought it was a little bit over par, but it was the best wicket in the World Cup which we played on in terms of runs scored. It wasn’t probably the quickest wicket in the West Indies but definitely the best wicket which we played on. Certainly chaseable. We were on target for a while but a couple of hiccups and some good bowling from them set us back.”
He has been one of the greatest bowlers that Aussies got and especially his experience in the death overs are highly commendable.
