Semi Final 2: AUS vs SA| Full Match Analysis| Best 11

The 2nd Semi Final will be played between Australia (AUS) and South Africa (SA). 

League Stage Standings:

Australia (AUS) Analysis:

Aussies started the tournament with 2 losses and speculations were high that they might be able to qualify for the Semis. But they changed their mindset and won the remaining 7 matches back to back. They also created records in the World Cup. Their batting has been much better than their bowling, their bowling seems to be little lacking in the starting and death overs.            

Tournament performance so far:

David Warner-

He is currently the highest run scorer from the team. He is giving his team a solid start due to which they were able to post a huge score. His highest score was against Pakistan for which he took just 124 balls and hit 14 fours and 9 sixes. He carries a huge experience in the international circuit and also is much familiar with the Indian pitches since he has been playing in Indian Premier League (IPL) from a very long time.  

Travis Head-

He started the tournament with a great blazing century against New Zealand but after that in the remaining matches his bat remained silent and got out early. He is an aggressive batters who bats destructively in the Test matches also, so it is easy to judge him if he gets stuck to the pitch then huge runs can be scored easily. 

Mitchell Marsh-

Marsh in the last match against Bangladesh hit a blistering knock of 177 runs and took his team to a great victory. In the starting few matches he was struggling a little with the bat but with the progress in the tournament he showed his batting talent and scored runs easily.  

Also he can assist the team with his bowling and got 2 wickets till now. 

Steve Smith-

Smith though scored 2 half centuries in the tournament, he is yet to perform well with the bat and show his consistency. His first half century came against Netherlands whereas his 2nd one came in the last match against Bangladesh, except these two matches he couldn’t perform well and mostly got out early.  

Marnus Labuschagne-

Marnus before starting the World Cup he was playing brilliantly well but as soon as the tournament started he couldn’t get that touch. He got a couple of 40’s besides those half centuries, but unable to convert those into a big one. His best came against England. Now in this crucial match he needs to gear up with his performance.        

Josh Inglis-

In the starting he was batting quite elegant and his 58 runs against Sri Lanka got his team first win in the tournament. But after that he couldn’t get that rhythm back. Most of the time he tries to hit a lofted shot which eventually ends in giving his wicket.  

Glenn Maxwell-

This man proves why he is considered one of the best all-rounders in World Cricket. Despite being injured he took his team out of the danger single handedly against Afghanistan where he scored his career best 201 runs. He is a monster when he keeps hitting it easily. Also he scored the fastest century in the World Cup breaking the earlier record of Aiden Markram who made it in this tournament only. 

His century came against Netherlands where he took just 40 balls only. Not only with the bat he got 5 wickets in the tournament and provided the team with an additional spinner. His best was against South Africa where he got 2 wickets by giving away only 34 runs.    

Pat Cummins-

The skipper of the team has shown why he is meant to be the leader of the team. He is a great bowler which he showed by grabbing wickets but his batting makes him more popular in this World Cup. He can bat aggressively where he scored 37 runs in just 14 balls and against Afghanistan he scored only 12 runs in 68 runs and stood like a pillar in the pitch to help Maxwell get par the target. 

Mitchell Starc-

This tournament is not going so well for him till now. His economy is over 6 which is hardly seen by him. In the very first match he showed some good bowling but after that he was played easily by the batters. Also he is missing his line and length. Most of his wickets came in the death overs and also got beaten harshly by them.

Adam Zampa-

He is currently the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup. he was expensive in the starting two matches but after that he gained his momentum and got wickets in each match he played. He also made a record of getting 3 or more wickets in back to back 5 matches.  

Zampa is the key bowler for Aussies in the current scenario and slows down the run rate in middle overs. 

Josh Hazlewood-

Hazlewood started the tournament with a brilliant 3 wickets against India but he didn’t carry that momentum and was mostly expensive despite getting some wickets. In the later half of the tournament he got his rhythm back and bowled some economic spells. 

Sean Abbott-

He played the last match where he took 2 wickets against Sri Lanka but was little expensive in his spell. 

Marcus Stoinis-

He is a well known all-rounder of the team and basically known for his power hitting. But this isn’t shown in this tournament and he got out early. With the bowl he took 4 wickets with an economy of 7.52.  

Cameron Green-

He is also known for his destructive approach but couldn’t show it much. His best was against England. He can also do openings as he did in the past where he batted aggressively from the beginning. 

Alex Carey-

Due to his inconsistency with the bat he was dropped and Inglis got the chance. He played the first match against India where he got out in the 2nd ball.

South Africa (SA) Analysis:

This team has shown how destructive they can be. In this World Cup they were ruthless to most of the teams. Despite their match against India they were mostly dominant in the games. Their batting has been brilliant as compared to that of bowling. Mostly they were seen in great form in their batting but their bowling seems to be a little bit difficult as they concede runs easily.

Tournament performance so far:

Quinton de Kock-

He is well known for his conversion of his innings from 50 to 100. He is always guiding his team to a great total and always gives his team a great start. He is the leading run scorer from the side. He is striking well in the starting and already scored the most hundreds in the tournament. His best came against Bangladesh.

Temba Bavuma-

The leader of the team has not been able to show his batting performance up to the mark. He mostly gets out early and was not able to convert his innings into a big one. He is a great batsman but was not able to show this in this tournament.

Rassie van der Merwe-

He is currently the second most run scorer for his team. And scoring well in the middle overs. He is not known for his destruction but well known for converting the runs. He started his innings slowly but later on he struck well and scored many runs. His best came against New Zealand where he stood hard in one side of the pitch.

Aiden Markram-

He started the tournament with the fastest century in the World Cup but was later broken by Maxwell. He is a great hitter of the ball and if he gets in his radius then it will be highly dangerous for the bowler. 

In the last two matches he wasn’t able to score many runs and got out early. Though his consistency with the bat is still pretty good.

Heinrich Klassen-

He is highly destructive from the side and especially in the death overs he is a monster with the bat. He made his best appearance in the match against England. One main thing that needs to be concerned is that in the last 4 matches his highest score was 15 runs. He needs to get back his rhythm so that he can contribute much with the bat.

David Miller-

Miller the killer is well known for his powerful hitting and this he was only able to show against New Zealand where he scored 53 runs in just 30 balls. He is well known for his finishing off the innings. Still till now he has not been in his signature finishing role. 

Marco Jansen-

He has taken the most wickets for his team. He took wickets in all of his matches. But most of the time he concedes many runs. In this World Cup he took most of his wickets in the first 10 overs. Not only with the bowl but also with the bat he showed some destruction. His best batting performance was against England where he scored 75 runs in just 42 balls.

Keshav Maharaj-

He is the main spinner from the side but his performance against Pakistan will be known for many times as he scored the winning runs for his team by hitting a boundary and got his team victory by 1 wicket. He is currently having the best economy from the side.

Kagiso Rabada-

He carries huge experience in the bowling department. Except in the last against Afghanistan he got wickets in all the matches. His best performance was against Australia. He has the ability to change things for his team. Earlier he did opening bowling from the side but now he mostly came to bowl after 10 overs.

Gerald Coetzee-

This young lad has shown great talent in his first World Cup. He got the most wickets for his team and his best performance came in the last match against Afghanistan. He can also bat in the lower order and can contribute healthy runs for his team in the end.

Lungi Ngidi-

Ngidi has a great pace and can deliver great problems to the opponents very well. But he couldn’t deliver much in this tournament. If there will be a swing in the pitch, then he can be a great threat to the opponents.

Lizaad Williams-

He played just one match and that was against Bangladesh and there he showed an average performance.

Tabraiz Shamsi-

He is also a great spinner from the side but played only 3 matches. His best was against Pakistan in the World Cup and was awarded Player of the Match in that match.

Andile Phehlukwayo-

He is a bowling all-rounder and played in the last match against Afghanistan where he got 1 wicket but also impressed with his batting as he scored 39 runs and got unbeaten till the end.

Reeza Hendricks-

He played in the absence of Bavuma and was impressed with his performance against England where he scored 85 runs.
