Firstly with the bat and later with the 5 wickets haul, Mitchell Santner got his 2nd win in this tournament. New Zealand won the match by beating Netherlands by 99 runs.
Kiwis scored 322/7 in 50 overs and Dutch players managed only 223/10 in 46.3 overs.
Netherlands after winning the toss opted to bowl first.
A pretty good start by the Kiwis as their opener Devon Conway (32 runs) and Will Young (70 runs) put 67 runs for the first wicket. Young was playing at a different level and placing the ball well. He hit 7 fours and 2 sixes. Rachin Ravindra (51 runs) again showed handy runs with the bat. In the absence of Williamson he is playing at his position and doing well. He hit 3 fours and a six in his knock.
Daryl Mitchell (48 runs) played pretty well in the middle overs. He along with the skipper Tom Latham (53 runs) added 53 runs together. Latham might be feeling a little bit light as he is currently out of form and this knock will definitely boost him to play longer in the remaining matches. Mitchell Santner (36 runs not out) remained unbeaten and with his rocket firing innings took the team total to 322 runs in 50 overs by losing 7 wickets. In his innings he hit 3 fours and 2 sixes in 17 balls.
Dutch bowlers bowled well in the middle overs but lost the touch in the death overs and this was used by Kiwi batters quite well. Aryan Dutt, Reolof van der Merwe and Paul van Meekeren took 2 wickets each. Bas de Leede got 1 wicket.
Then during the chase Netherlands was not getting a good start. Vikramjit Singh (12 runs) failed to capitalize his first matchy performance. Colin Ackermann (69 runs) this time targets the bowlers pretty well. He was striking well and played the shots all around the ground. In his innings he hit 5 fours. Bas de Leede (18 runs) got a good start but failed to carry it forward.
Scott Edwards (30 runs) the skipper played a couple of good shots but since the required run rate was getting higher and higher he threw his wicket. In the end Sybrand Engelbrecht (29 runs) tried to get a little close to that score but it failed and the whole team surrendered in 223 runs in 46.3 overs.
Great bowling shown by the Kiwis. Mitchell Santner got 5 wickets and turned the moment to their favour fully as he got the well settled Ackermann and Edwards in the successive overs. Matt Henry again showed his class by taking 3 wickets. Rachin Ravindra also got 1 wicket.
Mitchell Santner, New Zealand, Player of the Match
“Not too bad, credit to the boys upfront with the bat. They gave us a nice platform. There was a bit of a hole in the middle but we did well to get past 320. It skidded a bit under light but we contained them and bowled well. It was nice tonight, I got a lot of purchases, didn’t bowl my best tonight but was happy to get the rewards. We hung in and picked wickets in partnerships, we managed to take wickets like we did against England to slow them down. Today it was slower, held on the pitch and their spinners bowled really well too.”
