Kane Williamson will again miss the World Cup. The 2nd match of New Zealand will be against Netherlands on 9th October. Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson will join the team.
Kane is recovering from his injury and played the two warm up matches against Pakistan and South Africa. He looked a little solid as he scored one fifty in the first warm up match. He is currently working on his fitness and inches close to being fully fit. So precautions are taken so that no further delay will be done.
New Zealand won their 1st match against England by 9 wickets in which Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra scored centuries and created records.
New Zealand head coach, Gary Stead said, “Kane’s been progressing very well. I think the fielding is still the element for him that he’s just got to get a little bit higher, and he gets a little bit more trust in his body. But he is progressing really well and we are pretty confident that he will be playing the third match for us. We have got another training to get through today, so we will finalize the team once we have got through that training.”
He further added about the availability of Southee and Ferguson, “Lockie Ferguson got through that training really well. So providing he’s scrubbed up ok this morning, he will be available for this next game. Tim Southee got through the training very well. It was great to see him back at the bowling crease and also doing a little bit of fielding. He will just get a final X-ray done this morning and then we will make a call after that, but it’s all looking good from selection now on and into the rest of the tournament.”
