RCB’s Crushing Victory Propels Them to Table-Top Glory

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) got their back to back victory. This time they defeated Gujarat Giants (GG) by 8 wickets. Bangalore was excellent in both of the departments.

RCB already opened their account with a close victory against UPW by 2 runs, whereas it was GG’s second defeat in their 2nd match. They first lost against MI by 5 wickets. With this win Royals (+1.665) climb to the top spot with 4 points with a superior net run rate than MI (+0.488) in the WPL

After winning the toss, Bangalore skipper Smriti Mandhana opted to bowl first.

Gujarat seems to face a huge hurdle for playing against the Challengers. They faced 67 dot balls in their innings. Dayalan Hemalatha (31 runs not out) was the highest scorer from the side. Harleen Deol (22 runs) was the 2nd most scorer for the team, but she took 31 balls to reach there.

Their top order failed miserably. Skipper Beth Mooney, Phoebe Litchfield and Ashleigh Gardner all got out cheaply. Due to which at the end they just managed 107 runs in 20 overs by losing 7 wickets.

The bowling department of Bangalore was brilliant as they stopped the huge batting line up to an under par score. Renuka Singh Thakur delivered the team with 2 wickets. Sophie Mollineux was the highest wicket taker from the team as she grabbed 3 wickets. Georgia Wareham got 1 wicket.

At the time of chase, Royals lost Sophie Devine (6 runs) early on. But captain Smriti (43 runs) and Sabbhineni Meghana (36 runs not out) stabilized the team total as both of them together added 50 runs for the 2nd wicket.

In the end, Meghana along with Ellyse Perry (23 runs not out) got the final touch for the team with 8 wickets to spare. They chased down in 12.3 overs and scored 110 runs by losing 2 wickets.

Ashleigh Gardner and Tanuja Kanwar got 1 wicket each.
