MI crushed GG by 5 wickets to maintain the top spot

Mumbai Indians (MI) got their second victory in a row after defeating Gujarat Giants (GG) by 5 wickets. Now Mumbai top the table with 4 points in 2 matches.

Earlier MI won their previous match in the WPL opener against DC in the thrilling last ball, whereas it was Gujarat first match in this season and they couldn’t perform better against the previous trophy holder.

Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper of Mumbai, after winning the toss, opted to bowl first.

GG’s batting lineup was unable to stand against Mumbai’s bowling attack. The Giants were not able to make any big partnerships. Their highest scorer was Tanuja Kanwar (28 runs) who came to bat at number 9 spot. Due to regular wicket fall, the team just managed 126 runs in 20 overs by losing 9 wickets.

Amelia Kerr showed a great bowling performance as she got 4 wickets in her pocket. Shabnim Ismail also supported her and grabbed 3 wickets. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews got 1 wicket each.

During the chase, the top order again failed to provide a good start and they lost 3 wickets in just 49 runs. The skipper Harmanpreet (46 runs not out) and Amelia (31 runs) built a solid partnership of 66 runs for the 4th wicket, which ultimately stabilized the team’s momentum.

Therefore the captain leading from the front won the match for his team by hitting a six. The blue team posted 129 in 18.5 overs by losing 5 wickets.

Tanuja Kanwar in the bowling department also performed brilliantly and got 2 wickets. Kathryn Bryce and Lea Tahuhu got 1 wicket each.
