The news will be shocking ahead of the Champions Trophy for the Indian team as Bumrah might miss the whole tournament.
Jasprit is the backbone of pace attack for the Men In Blue has incurred back spasm during the last test match of the Border-Gavaskar trophy. After that he is in regular touch with the orthopedic surgeon Dr Rowan Schouten who is in New Zealand. He also treated the star pacer when he got injured in 2022, due to which he missed the T20 World Cup.
According to some reports in Times of India, a source from BCCI revealed that the medical team has seen the reports and will send these reports to the New Zealand surgeon but the outcome of the reports doesn’t seem to be very good and only a miracle can make Bumrah 100% fit before the tournament.
“The BCCI medical team is in touch with Schouten in New Zealand. The board had also planned a visit for Bumrah to New Zealand. But that hasn’t happened yet. The selectors know it will be a miracle if Bumrah turns up 100% fit in the given timeline.”
The source also added that the board and the star pacer, both don’t want any kind of risk before landing on the field.
“The reports will be shared with his doctor in New Zealand. Sending Bumrah to New Zealand will depend on the feedback. The board and Bumrah himself are not willing to push hard given his significance over a long period of time. The selectors will only be informed if he is ready to take the field after the entire process is complete. The selectors will need to keep a backup plan ready for him. It will be a miracle if Bumrah makes it.”
Earlier it was said that the star pacer might make his comeback in the knockout stage. But now things are uncertain for how long it will take to make his return.
If things do not go according to the plan, then the selection committee will have to announce the replacement. There are two replacements in line, Harshit Rana and Mohammad Siraj. The former is predicted to be the selector’s choice for the upcoming ICC tournament.
India already declared their 15 member squad for the tournament which will be led by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will be team’s deputy leader. They are in Group A alongwith Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand. Their first match will be against Bangladesh on February 20.
