GG’s Sensational Upset Shakes RCB by 19 Runs

Finally Gujarat Giants (GG) got their first victory in this season of WPL. They got the victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 19 runs. 

After four consecutive losses Gujarat finally found a reason to make their fans smile. Their last defeat came against DC, where they lost the match by 25 runs. On the other hand, RCB won their last encounter where they won the match against UPW by 23 runs

For the first time in this season, the team who won the toss opted to bat first and Gujarat started this. 

The opening pair of Gujarat posted a solid partnership as Beth Mooney (85 runs not out) and Laura Wolvaardt (76 runs) posted 140 runs. They dominate against the bowlers. Skipper Mooney played 51 balls and hit 12 fours and a six in her knock and remained unbeaten till the end. Wolvaardt hit 13 fours and played 45 balls. 

Due to the contribution of the opening pair, the team managed 199 runs in 20 overs by losing 5 wickets. 

Georgia Wareham and Sophie Mollineux got 1 wicket each. 

During the chase, Bangalore didn’t get a destructive start for which they needed the most. They lost wickets at regular intervals. Their inform captain Smriti Mandhana (24 runs) was the first one who got dismissed. Georgia Wareham (48 runs) was the highest scorer from the team. 

They finally put up 180 runs in 20 overs by losing 8 wickets.  

Ashleigh Gardner got 2 wickets. Kathryn Bryce and Tanuja Kanwar got 1 wicket each.
