DC and LSG’s Playoff hopes hang by a thread

Delhi Capitals (DC) despite defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 19 runs is having a very less chance to make their place into the next round due to the poor net run rate. Whereas Super Giants also have the same reason.

Capitals in 20 overs scored 208/8 in 20 overs and in reply Super Giants managed 189/9 in 20 overs.

In their previous encounter, Delhi got a great win against Lucknow with the help of Jake Fraser-McGurk’s brilliant maiden IPL half century.

After winning the toss, KL Rahul chooses to bowl first.

After losing Jake Fraser early, a brilliant partnership of 92 runs was added by Abhishek Porel and Shai Hope. Porel scored 58 runs in 33 balls and hit 5 fours and 4 sixes. His strike rate was 175.76. Whereas Hope scored 38 runs in 27 balls.

Skipper Rishabh Pant scored 33 runs but it was Tristan Stubbs unbeaten 57 runs knock due to which the team got score above 200. He played 25 balls and hit 3 fours and 4 sixes.

Naveen-ul-Haq got 2 wickets while Ravi Bishnoi and Arshad Khan got 1 wicket each.

In the chase, Lucknow lost 4 wickets in just 44 runs. Then Nicholas Pooran played a fantastic inning of 61 runs in just 27 balls and hit 6 fours and 4 sixes. His strike rate was 225.93.

But it was Arshad Khan’s unbeaten knock of 58 runs in which the chase was looking possible. The match was looking out of their hand but his destruction created little happiness in the dugout. It was his maiden IPL half-century in which he played 33 balls and hit 3 fours and 5 sixes.

Ishant Sharma got 3 wickets while Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs got 1 wicket each.

Now with this win Delhi is still in contention for the Playoffs but the hope is less since their net run rate is too negative (-0.377). As a result RR makes their place into the next round and is 2nd team after KKR who qualified for the Playoffs. Lucknow chances for the next round is just too thin due to the very poor net run rate.
