A huge drama was created on the last day over Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal. India lost the 4th test match of the Border-Gavaskar trophy by 184 runs. With this loss Australia currently leads the series by 2-1. The final test match will be played at Sydney from January 3rd to 7th.
Jaiswal was the only batter from the side who looked solid against the Aussies bowling attack. In the 71st over, Jaiswal was batted on 84 runs and then Australian skipper Pat Cummins got the wicket of him, where he bowled a short delivery and Jaiswal tried to put it down but he couldn’t succeed it well.
After that Cummins appealed for caught behind as Alex Carey (wicket-keeper) took a marvelous low diving catch. To his appeal, the on-field umpire Joel Wilson was convinced and called it not out. After that the Australian skipper took the DRS, where in the Snicko it didn’t show any spikes of the ball touching the bat/gloves. But the third umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat from Bangladesh overturned the decision and gave Jaiswal out, since there was little deflection in the video after the ball passed the bat/gloves.
To this, BCCI Vice-President, Rajiv Shukla showed his disapproval of the decision of the third umpire and said, “Yashasavi Jaiswal was clearly not out. Third umpire should have taken note of what technology was suggesting. While over ruling field umpires, third umpire should have solid reasons.”
After this, former Australian batter Mark Waugh and former England captain Michael Vaughan showed their angry reply to the BCCI’s claim over Yashasvi’s dismissal. Both the former players in their social media handle shared their thoughts.
Waugh said, “Let’s get this straight once and for all. Jaiswal was clearly out it was a very obvious deflection off the bat/glove. Not sure how the umpire missed it in the first place. Snicko missed it maybe as it was a very soft glancing blow but at the end of the day the right decision was made.”
Vaughan said, “Seriously .. all this has to stop .. It was OUT .. all decisions yesterday were the correct ones .. Australia were just better this week.”
Also the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma didn’t look much convinced about the decision of the third umpire. He said, “Really I don’t know what to make of that because the technology didn’t show anything. With the naked eye it did seem that he did touch something, so I don’t know how the umpires want to use the technology. But in all fairness I think he did touch the ball, but again look it is about the technology, which we all know is not 100 percent.
We don’t want to look really too much into that. But again it is just that we are more often than not we are the ones falling on the wrong side of it. It has been happening since India, so that’s where I feel we have been a little unfortunate.”
