Afghanistan has now been into the race with other teams to make their place into the Semi Finals. They defeated Netherlands by 7 wickets and put their chances much closer than before.
Netherlands scored 179/10 in 46.3 overs and in reply Afghanistan chased down the target in 31.3 overs and made 181/3.
After winning the toss, Dutch skipper Scott Edwards opted to bat first.
They started in an aggressive way and put 73 in just 12 overs. Max O’Dowd (42 runs) scored his highest score in the World Cup. He along with Colin Ackermann (29 runs) made a partnership of 70 runs. Then Sybrand Engelbrecht (58 runs) scored his 3rd fifty of the season. He hit 6 boundaries in his innings. After the departure of these batters, the team suddenly collapsed and none of the remaining batters tried to score much and finally all got submitted in 46.3 overs and scored 179 runs.
Afghan bowlers tried their best and stopped the Dutch team as at one point they were looking close to 300 runs. Mohammad Nabi showed his experience and grabbed 3 important wickets. Noor Ahmed got 2 wickets while Mujeeb Ur Rahman got 1 wicket.
Since the target was below par score they batted pretty well. Rahmat Shah (52 runs) hit his 3rd consecutive half century in the tournament. He was pretty well supported by the skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (56 runs not out), as the both made a partnership of 74 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Then in the end Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai (31 runs not out) got the victory for their team as they scored 181 runs in 31.3 overs by losing 3 wickets.
Saqib Zulfiqar, Roelof van der Merwe and Logan van Beek got 1 wicket each.
