England legend unleashes anger on the national team

One of the greatest batters that England has, Sir Geoffrey Boycott has put a huge remark on the national team saying that the players should ‘join the circus’.

The statement came as the national team is playing Test Cricket aggressively which ultimately results in losses. During their last test series against India where in the 5 match series the team got 4-1 defeat despite getting a strong start. In a recent edition of ‘The Telegraph’ Boycott said,

“Test match cricket is not an exhibition. If our players start to think that results don’t matter then they might as well join a circus or go around the world like the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team doing tricks, laughing and joking, and not bothering who wins so long as everyone has a fun time.”

He is not happy with the Bazball approach of the Test side as it didn’t put any results to their favour. Not only this, Boycott further added that the average Test players of the England team has been paid well in IPL (Indian Premier League) due to which they get rich. He said,

“All we have had over the last few months is the Twenty20 World Cup in the Caribbean, where England performed poorly, the Indian Premier League, which helped a few of our moderate to average Test players get rich.

Before that, a miserable 4-1 Test series loss in India where England started well, but in the end were hammered.

In India last winter, ego and hubris got the better of some of our players. They came out with comments about being entertainers and how it was important to score quickly and thrill the crowds. All that is laudable but they should never lose sight that there is a winner and a loser and losing isn’t much fun.”

The team had a decent performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup that took them to the Semi Final place where they lost against India miserably by 68 runs. In the 2023 ODI World Cup their performance was really bad and finished 7th in the points table. At the start of the ODI WC they hardly managed to get any victory but towards the end they got some wins and got 7th place.
