A much needed victory by Afghanistan to keep their hopes alive for the Super 8. They beat Australia by 21 runs which is also their first ever victory against them.
Afghanistan scored 148/6 in 20 overs and in reply Australia scored 127/10 in 19.2 overs.
In their first Super 8 encounters, Aussies got the victory against Bangladesh in a rain damaging match whereas Afghan got the defeat against India in their previous match.
After winning the toss, Mitchell Marsh goes for bowling.
Once again the Afghan openers provided the team a solid start and put 118 runs for the first wicket. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 60 runs whereas Ibrahim Zadram scored 51 runs. Gurbaz hit 4 fours and 4 sixes in his knock while Zadran hit 6 boundaries.
After their departure none of the other batters tried to pull up the things for the team and the wickets started to fall one after the other.
Pat Cummins got 3 wickets whereas Adam Zampa got 2 wickets to his credit. Marcus Stoinis got 1 wicket.
In the chase, Aussies struggled a bit as they lost 3 wickets in just 32 runs. But then again Glenn Maxwell provided a solid knock of 59 runs in 41 balls. He hit 6 fours and 3 sixes in his knock and has a strike rate of 143.90. Just it looked like the same miracle he will do which he did in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
But unfortunately he didn’t get any help from the other end and the wickets kept falling from the other end. As a result, the Aussies tasted the first loss in this World Cup.
Gulbadin Naib got the nerves of the batters and bowled his best performance in the T20. He got 4 wickets by giving away only 20 runs in his 4 overs of spell. Naveen-ul-Haq also supported him from the other end as he grabbed 3 wickets in his 4 overs by giving away only 20 runs. Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan got 1 wicket each.
