The 14th match of the tournament will be played between Australia (AUS) and Sri Lanka (SL).
Aussies are currently on the 9th place (-1.846) in 2 matches and as they lost both the matches while Lankans are standing in the 7th spot (-1.161) in 2 matches as they also lost both of their matches.
Australia (AUS) Analysis:
Australia didn’t want this type of start in the World Cup. They lost both of their matches. First against India by 6 wickets and then against South Africa by 134 runs. They were unable to show their class in both of the departments.
David Warner before the World Cup played against India here where he hit three consecutive half centuries and was looking in tremendous form. But when the tournament got started and in the two matches he scored 41 & 13 runs, unable to show his class in batting so far. Mitchell Marsh failed to score runs in the beginning and scored 0 & 7 runs so far. Against Proteas he wasn’t able to timed it properly.
Steve Smith started well but couldn’t carry that properly. Against South Africa his dismissal was a little controversial. But an impactful innings is waiting for him. Marnus Labuschagne also batted well but he failed to convert his innings into a big one. Till now he contributed with 46 & 27 runs. He needs to be more consistent with the bat so that he can contribute much to the team.
Glenn Maxwell is contributing more with the ball than his batting. He got 2 wickets only but was highly economical in his spell. He is considered one of the greatest hitters for his team but he misses his hard hitting. Through his bowling he gave the team a great option in this. Marcus Stoinis was brought in place of Cameron Green in the last match, but was not so effective with the bat and also with the bowl. Cameron Green is also a hard hitter of the ball but he failed to impress with his performance.
Josh Inglis was brought in the last match in place of Alex Carey. Inglis didn’t have much international experience which shows in the match. He got out cheaply. Alex Carey also struggled with his form and due to which he was dropped in the last match.
Pat Cummins the skipper of the team who batted destructive in the death overs but failed to show any great performance with the bowl. He also bowled expensive spells. Batting point of view he looks solid in the death overs. Mitchell Starc, the main pacer of the team, bowled brilliantly in the starting overs but lost his rhythm in the death overs. He was earlier known for his run stopping machine in the death overs but now he failed to do so.
Josh Hazelwood bowled brilliantly against India but against Proteas he was beaten highly and was looking little off during that match. Till now he took 4 wickets. Adam Zampa being the main spinner from the side, hasn’t bowled according to the name. He was played easily by the batters and was expensive in both of his matches.
Sean Abbott is a great pacer and can show his skill in batting also. Till now he didn’t get any chance to play in the tournament. Travis Head is a destructive batsmen and can bat with full power anytime. He also hasn’t played till now.
Predicted 11 for the Match:
Pat Cummins ©, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschgane, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazelwood, Adam Zampa.
Sri Lanka (SL) Analysis:
Sri Lanka also lost both of their matches in the tournament so far. They lost their first match South Africa where it ended up by breaking several records and South Africa won that by 102 runs whereas against Pakistan they lost the match by 6 wickets. From a batting point of view they batted pretty well but their bowling seems to be too weak which took away both the matches.
Pathum Nissanka after getting out on a duck in the first match, scored a half century against Pakistan. He is well known for his steady game play. Kusal Perera on the other hand is still to show an impactful innings. Failed in both the matches. Might be looking forward to scoring some great runs with the bat. Dimuth Karunatne can also open as he did this in the few matches before. But till now he didn’t play any match in the tournament.
Kusal Mendis batted brilliantly and scored 198 runs till now in the 2 matches. In both the matches he batted in a full aggressive manner. Also hit 14 sixes till now in the World Cup. Now he had to take the responsibility of leading the team in absence of Dasun Shanaka. Sadeera Samarawickrama scored his maiden century in international cricket and that came against Pakistan. He provided solidity in the middle order and can bat according to the situation.
Charith Asalanka is full of destruction. Against South Africa he scored 79 runs and batted with full aggression. In the death overs he is a pure nightmare for the bowlers. Dhananjaya de Silva is still not getting that knock for which he is known. He started well but was unable to carry that forward.
Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka has been ruled out from the World Cup due to the injury. Chamika Karunaratne who travelled with the team as a reserve player now joined the main squad. Karunaratne is a batting allrounder and has the ability to hit big in the death overs, also a perfect replacement for the skipper. Dunith Wellalage is still to show his brilliance in bowling which he showed in the Asia Cup. He can bat well too in the lower order and provide some healthy runs with the bat.
Matheesha Pathirana played his first World Cup and this didn’t go well for him. In both the matches he gave 95 & 90 runs respectively and got only 2 wickets. Economy touches 10 approx and needs to be better in the remaining matches. Maheesh Theekshana made his comeback against Pakistan despite getting a good start, lost his rhythm in the later half of the match. He got 1 wicket in that match.
Dilshan Madushanka got 2 wickets in both the matches but was expensive in his spells. In both the matches he got a good start but got beaten in the death overs. Kasun Rajitha dropped from the first match and in the first match he was expensive in his 10 overs where he gave away 90 runs and got only 1 wicket. Lahiru Kumara is a great option for the Lankans in the pace department, as all their pace bowlers are expensive.
Predicted 11 for the Match:
Dasun Shanaka ©, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis (wk), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara, Dilshan Madushanka.
