Bangladesh won Bronze in Men’s Cricket

A thrilling victory to the Bangladesh team after defeating Pakistan by 6 wickets by D/L method. Due to rain the match was reduced to 13 overs which later reduced to 5 overs due to again rain interruption. 

Earlier Pakistan scored 48/1 in 5 overs and after DLS rule the target was set to 65 runs in 5 overs which Bangladesh chased down in the last ball and scored 65/4 in 5 overs. 

Both the teams contested for the bronze medal after Pakistan got defeated by Afghanistan by 4 wickets in the Semi Final and Bangladesh was defeated by India by 9 wickets in the Semi Final. 

After winning the toss Bengal tigers opted to bowl first. 

The match previously was held to be 13 overs due to the rain damaging the match. Mirza Baig (32 runs) was looking destructive from the beginning and hit boundaries all around the ground. He played 18 balls and hit 4 fours and 2 sixes in his innings and also remained unbeaten at the end. Khushdil Shah (14 runs) also gave good support to Baig in the start.   

Just as the 5th over went, rain started heavily and ultimately the match had to be stopped. At that point of time, Pakistan scored 48 runs in 5 overs by losing one wicket. Therefore after the match started due to DLS method the target was set to be 65 runs in 5 overs. 

Rakibul Hasan got the only wicket of Khushdil Shah. 

Bengal Tigers when came to bat they lost two early wickets in the first over. Their skipper Saif Hassan and opener Zakir Hasan departed without scoring any runs. Then Afif Hossain (20 runs) and Yasir Ali (34 runs) added 44 runs in the next 3 overs. 

Then in the final over 20 runs were needed. Yasir showed his full power and hit 16 runs in the first four (6,2,6,2) deliveries and then in the fifth delivery he got out and the equation was 4 runs in the last ball. Then Rakibul Hasan (4 runs) came and hit a boundary in the last ball and won the match for his team. They scored 65 runs in 5 overs by losing 4 wickets. Therefore they clinched the Bronze medal in the Asian Games.  

Arshad Iqbal bowled a splendid spell as he took 3 wickets (2 in the first over) and gave only 14 runs in his 2 overs. Sufiyan Muqeem got 1 wicket.
