Ex-Indian opener and one of the most successful players in the domestic circuit, Wasim Jaffer wants Ishan Kishan to be dropped from the T20 and Yashasvi Jaiswal should be given a chance in place of him.
Recently India lost their 1st T20 match against West Indies by 4 runs. In that match, Kishan only made 6 runs. Kishan was the man of the series in the ODI matches against West Indies.
Jaiswal also performed brilliantly in his debut match against the Caribbeans where he scored 171 runs. In this year’s IPL, he scored 600+ runs which was his best season till now and due to his huge impactful performance he was selected in the international team.
In the interview with ESPNcricinfo, Wasim Jaffer said,
"I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal. He should play as an opening batter. I want to see Jaiswal in place of Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan’s T20 form worries me. In the last 15 innings, he hasn’t scored a 40, the strike rate is also too low. So that's a cause of concern, but he was in good form in ODIs. It's a different format (T20). he also had an ordinary IPL season.”
Regarding the performance of Jaiswal in the IPL, he added, “Why not give an opportunity to the boy who played very well in the IPL?He won the emerging player award and is confident. I’ll definitely look towards that change.”
About the 1st T20 match, he said, “The 1st T20 was played on a difficult pitch, so Ishan and Gill, to play in that fashion (destructive way), is too much expectation. It’s crucial to see the pitch for the 2nd T20. If it’s good enough, then our batters will obviously play well.”
