Uganda defeats PNG in a tense low-scoring battle

A historic moment for Uganda (UGA) as they register their first ever victory in the T20 World Cup. They defeated Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 3 wickets in a low scoring match.

After winning the toss, Uganda skipper Brian Masaba opted to bowl first.

PNG scored 77/10 in 19.1 overs and UGA chased down the target in 18.2 overs and scored 78/7.

A pathetic batting performance was seen by the PNG batters as they were unable to get some strong partnerships. Only three batters crossed the double digit mark. Hiri Hiri was the highest scorer from the side with 15 runs. The other two batters who crossed the double digit were Lega Siaka (12 runs) and Kripa Doriga (12 runs).

The African bowlers performed brilliantly and provided a hard fight to the batters to score easily. Alpesh Ramjani, Cosmas Kyewuta, Juma Miyagi and Frank Nsubuga got 2 wickets each. Brian Masaba got 1 wicket.

In the chase, UGA batters also struggled after targeting the low score. They kept losing wickets one after the other but it was Riazat Ali Shah who maintained his patience level after scoring 33 runs in 56 balls and hitting one boundary in his inning. Juma Miyagi was the other batter who touched the double digit and scored 13 runs.

PNG bowlers showed a perfect line and length and created problems for the batters, but unfortunately they were unable to get the final touch. Alei Nao and Norman Vanua got 2 wickets each. Chad Soper and Assad Vala got 1 wicket each.
