Starc restricted England to below 300 runs in their 1st innings. Australia won the toss and opted for bowl. England started well but couldn’t convert into a big total and they settled down for 283/10 in their 1st innings. Australia scored 61/1 at the end of the day. Australia is leading the Ashes series by 2-1.
England openers gave a good start to the team and made 62 runs for the 1st wicket. Marsh breaks that partnership by dismissing Ben Duckett. Duckett departed after scoring 41 runs. (62-1). Then Cummins took the wicket of another opener by dismissing Zak Crawley. Crawley made 22 runs. (66-2). Root was the next man dismissed. He is unable to score big in this Ashes. Hazelwood took his wicket. Root scored 5 runs. (73-3).
The highest partnership for England in 1st innings is 111 runs between Moeen Ali and Harry Brook. For the 4th wicket it happens. Then Murphy came and shattered the wickets of Moeen. Moeen departed after scoring 34 runs. (184-4). Then Starc gets the wickets of English captain Ben Stokes. He took his wicket for the 9th time in the Test. Stokes made only 3 runs. (193-5).
Bairstow gets away by Hazelwood. A good length delivery which kisses the edge of the bat and it hits the leg stump straight away. He made only 4 runs. (208-6). Then the highest scorer for the team, Harry Brook, left after making a brilliant 85 runs. Starc gets the credit for his dismissal. (212-7). Wood again shows his batting destruction in his 28 runs innings. He hits 5 fours in just 29 balls. Murphy ends his bazball innings. (261-8).
In the next over, Starc gets the wicket of Broad. He made only 7 runs. (270-9). Again Starc strikes by taking the final wicket. Woakes made a valuable knock of 36 runs. (283-10).
Starc got 4 wickets while Hazelwood and Murphy settled with 2 wickets each. Marsh and Cummins settled with 1 wicket each.
Aussies in their 1st started well. Warner and Khawaja put together 49 runs for the 1st wicket. Warner again fails to convert his innings into a big one. Woakes gets his wicket. Warner made 24 runs. (49-1). At the end of the day Australia put 61 runs on the board with the loss of one wicket. Khawaja is playing at 26 runs while Labuschagne made 2 runs.
