Teams Analysis
Sri Lanka (SL):
The 2014 champion got a bad start in their opening match after a defeat at the hands of South Africa. Though they had a decent line up, they need to make a strong comeback so that they can easily reach the next stage of the T20 World Cup.
Skipper Wanindu Hasaranga despite scoring duck in his batting made an excellent comeback in his bowling after grabbing 2 wickets in his 3.2 overs by giving away 22 runs. He has been a fantastic all-rounder for a long time for the team and again he needs to step in both the departments.
All the batters in their first match failed miserably to score runs on the board. Openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis unable to get a solid start for the team. Nissanka scored only 3 runs in 8 balls whereas Mendis scored 19 runs after playing 30 deliveries. Both of them have the power to get some good starts, especially Mendis who is known for his power hitting.
Charith Asalanka who is known for finishing the things for the team, failed to get there after scoring 6 runs in 9 balls. He is a destructive batter and can change the stats easily and the team needs him with his destructive gameplay. The experienced Angelo Matthews also failed to contribute well in his first match in both the departments. He scored 16 runs in 16 balls and in his 3 overs of spell he conceded 16 runs without getting any wickets.
Ex-captain of the team, Dasun Shanaka, failed to get runs with the bat but with the bowl he looked decent with his spell of 3 overs 6 runs and one wicket. He also took a maiden over in that match. Nuwan Thushara bowled pretty decently in the first match by taking the wicket of Reeza Hendricks. He conceded 18 runs in his 3 overs.
Probable Playing 11 of Sri Lanka (SL):
Wanindu Hasaranga ©, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Kamindu Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Angelo Matthews, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, Nuwan Thushara, Matheesha Pathirana.
Bangladesh (BAN):
They will be playing their first ever T20 World Cup match this season. The Bengal army showed a lot of positive potential in the past but they didn’t get the reward much in return. Their recent past performances have been a little on the down side and to qualify for the next round, they need to do better from their first match.
Najmul Hossain Shanto will be leading the side for the first time in his life for any ICC tournaments. He has been a decent batter from the side as he managed 796 runs in 37 matches with a strike rate of 109.64. He needs to be a little more aggressive in his batting so that a huge target can be set easily.
The opening combo of the team will be Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar. Though Hasan has a very less experience in T20 international format as he only played 7 matches there, but impressed the selectors with his batting in those matches as he got past 50+ thrice in those matches. On the other hand, Soumya had 10 years of experience in international cricket and played in various positions for the team. Currently seen in the opening slot. He scored 1398 runs for the team with a strike rate of 123.17. He has 5 fifties to his name and sometimes his part time bowling helped the team for an extra pacer sometimes.
Then the most experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who is the only player in the team and 2nd player in the world who played all the T20 World Cups from the start. With the bat he scored 12 half-centuries with a strike rate of 121.93 while with the bowl he got 146 wickets with an impressive economy of 6.78. He also led the team previously and had the knowledge about the game from the depth since he also played for various franchises all around the globe.
Towhid Hridoy is well known for his powerful hitting and has scored 454 runs in 19 balls and got past 50+ knocks twice. He has been scoring well in the past few matches. Mustafizur Rahman will be leading the pace department and has a lot of experience in playing for different franchises in the T20 leagues. In 96 matches he got 120 wickets. His slower deliveries towards the end, made it useful for him as batters confused to play the shots and resulted in delivering the wickets.
Mahmudullah also carries a huge experience in this format and has played 131 matches where he scored 2299 runs with the bat and has taken 39 wickets for the team.
Probable Playing 11 of Bangladesh (BAN):
Najmul Hossain Shanto ©, Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Liton Das (wk), Mahedi Hasan, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed.
Pitch Report for the match between Sri Lanka (SL) and Bangladesh (BAN):
The match will be played at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas. This will be the last match that will be played in this venue. Earlier three matches were played and in all the three matches, the chasing team got the victory. Though the last match was between Pakistan and USA where USA won the match in the Super Over. This pitch helped batters more as the ball came easily into the bat and chasing will be a good option here after winning the toss.
Weather Report:
A clean and clear weather is expected as there is no chance of rain as the temperature will touch 36 degree celsius at the daytime while at the night it will drop to 23 degree celsius. In the daytime pacers at the start will get a good amount of swing. Humidity will be close to 50%.
