South Africa registered 6 wickets win over Sri Lanka in a slow pitch. In the bowler’s dominating match, Porteas got the last laugh.
Sri Lanka scored 77/10 in 19.1 overs and South Africa in reply posted 80/4 in 16.2 overs. It was also Sri Lanka’s lowest T20 World Cup score in the history.
Lankan skipper Wanindu Hasaranga after winning the toss opted to bat first.
A pathetic batting performance was seen by the purple army as only three players touched the double digit mark. Kusal Mendis was the highest scorer of the team with 19 runs to his name. He took 30 balls to reach there and hit one boundary. Other two batters who touched the double digit were Angelo Mathews (16 runs) and Kamindu Mendis (11 runs).
Proteas bowlers were brilliant in their respective spells. Leading the team was Anrich Nortje whose deliveries were filled cluelessly by the Lankans. He took 4 wickets in his 4 overs by giving away only 7 runs. It was also his best performance in T20. Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj got 2 wickets each. Ottneil Baartman got 1 wicket.
In the chase also, African players struggled a bit as they lost 2 early wickets in just 23 runs. Then after a bit the score turned to 58 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
Wanindu Hasaranga got 2 wickets while Dasun Shanaka and Nuwan Thushara got 1 wicket each.
