The young talented Indian opener, Shubman Gill has been appointed as the captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL.
He was appointed after the trade of Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians, who was their skipper for the past 2 years. Under his leadership Gujarat became the champion in the very first season which they played in 2022 and became the runner up in 2023.
Now it will be interesting to see how Gill will accept the challenge. He was the leading run scorer in the 2023 season by making 890 runs with an average of 59.33 in 17 matches. He is a talented batsman and that shows in all the three formats he played. Now a new responsibility will be added to his career.
Through his social media handle he wrote, “I am proud to assume the captaincy of Gujarat Titans and I cannot thank the franchise enough for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. Let’s make it memorable!”

Gujarat Titans director Vikram Solanki said, “We have seen him mature not only as a batter but also as a leader in cricket. His contribution in the field has helped Gujarat Titans emerge as a formidable force, guiding the team through a successful campaign in 2022 and a strong run in 2023. His maturity and skill is evident in his on-field performance and we are extremely excited to embark on a new journey with a young leader like Shubman at the helm.”
Some more speculations were made after the exit of Hardik as Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan might be the next leader of the team. Kane carries a huge experience in captaincy and also did leadership for Sunrisers Hyderabad whereas Rashid took the responsibility of the Titans in absence of Pandya during the last season for some matches.
