Pakistan’s top selection committee members removed

Once again a hard decision was taken from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as they removed Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the post of selection committee.

The selection panel had seven members and no chief selector was there. The committee was formed hardly 4 months before. After the removal of these two, now they have only five members left. They are the coach, Mohammad Yusuf, a data analyst, Asad Shafiq and Bilal Afzal.

Riaz was formerly the chief selector of the Men’s team but he was removed from the post barely four months before and was named in the selection committee panel. Razzaq was also the selector for the Women’s team, but his omission from the panel will also relieve him from the duties of the Women’s team.

Riaz and Razzaq are currently playing in the World Championship of Legends in which they are representing their country and took them to the semifinal of that tournament.

According to the reports, it is suggested that the decision was taken due to the poor performance of the Men’s team in the T20 World Cup 2024 as they failed to qualify for the Super 8 round. They were in Group A along with India, USA, Ireland and Canada. The worst scenario for them was getting defeated at the hands of the USA, which eventually took them out from the next round.

In the past four years approx, the management has undergone several changes in the chief selector position. Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Misbah-ul-Haq, Haroon Rashid and Mohammad Wasim were the other selectors who left the management due to various circumstances.

It is being said that PCB will once again opt for the old route of the selection committee in which there will be a chief selector and five other members will be there to assist him.
