Mitchell Marsh century and Mark Wood 5 wickets a huge ups and down on 1st day of the 3rd Test of the Ashes.

Both Mitchell Marsh and Mark Wood played their first game in this Ashes series. Both of them provide valuable inputs to their respective team. Mitchell Marsh scored a century and also grabbed a wicket at the end, whereas Wood claimed 5 wickets in the first day of the 3rd Test.

Bowlers took the full credit on the 1st day where from both the sides they were looking dangerous and batsmen found it difficult to play. Total 13 wickets fell on the 1st day. Australia were all out on the score of 263. England were 68-3 at the end of the day. Firstly England won the toss and elected to bowl first at Headingley, Leeds.

Just in the first over of the day where Broad took Warner 16th time overall and Aussies lost their 1st wicket. Warner only scored 4 runs. And when the innings looks little settled down for the Kangaroos just then Wood strikes his 1st and clinches the wicket of Khawaja. Khawaja went after scoring 13 runs. Next one was Labuschagne who misjudged the ball and Root made no mistake in grabbing that. Woakes made him depart at the score of 21 runs.

Delivery of Broad just kissed the inside edge of Smith and Bairstow grabbed it. Nick was so small that even Smith can’t believe it and he immediately goes for the review where it actually shows how fine the ball kisses and goes to the gloves of Bairstow.

Australia were 85-4 and then Marsh and Head contributed 155 runs for the 5th wicket together. Marsh took the aggressive approach whereas Head took the defensive approach. Then Marsh made his century and it’s a great welcoming century by him. He was earlier dropped by Root and he utilizes the opportunity better. He departed after scoring 118 runs in 118 balls which includes 17 boundaries and 4 sixes. Woakes broke that partnership and he took off Marsh.

Head patience innings ended by Woakes. He made 39 runs in 74 balls. After that Wood took Starc by his 90 mph delivery. Starc only made 2 runs. In that same over, Wood again strikes by taking the wicket of Australian captain Pat Cummins. He goes out for a duck. Carey was the next batsman, Wood dismissed. He was out for just 8 runs. And the last one was Todd Murphy, whom Wood shows his speed of 91 mph and the wickets just moving up the air as soon as it strikes.

After the Marsh Dismissal, Australia just added only 23 more runs and their last 5 wickets fell in that run span. Wood 1st match after the IPL and he performed brilliantly and took 5 wickets by giving away only 34 runs. Chris Woakes also delivers his 3 crucial wickets. His comeback also helps his side well. Whereas Broad took 2 wickets.

England in their 1st innings lost three important wickets. In their 3rd over, Cummins bowled a short pitch delivery where Duckett tried to punch that one but it took a thick inside edge and Carey grabbed a beautiful diving catch. He departed after scoring 2 runs. Harry Brook was the next one who was dismissed by Cummins again. He was promoted up the order but that also didn’t work for him. Just a few overs left then Marsh took the wicket of Crawley who was looking good. He scored 33 runs.

At the end of the day Bairstow and Root played the remaining almost 6 overs pretty well. Root was at 19 runs and Bairstow at 1 run at the end. Cummins took 2 crucial wickets and Marsh took 1.
