Saim Ayub hit a hattrick of half centuries in the CPL. His immense hitting skill took Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) to a win over Jamaica Tallawahs (JT) by 7 wickets.
JT scored 152/5 in 20 overs which GAW chased down in 18.3 overs and scored 155/3.
It is Warriors 6th consecutive win in this CPL and currently the only team who didn’t lose a match. Lastly they won against Barbados Royals (BR) by a superb last over spell by Gudakesh Motie and won the match by 3 runs. Whereas Jamaica lost their last match against Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) as TKR won the match quite easily by 7 wickets.
After winning the toss, Guyana invited Jamaica to bat first.
Tallawahs didn’t start well as they lost Alex Hales (9 runs) in the 4th over. After that ski[per Brandon King (52 runs) took the charge and played a solid knock. He was well supported by Kirk Mckenzie (13 runs) on the other end. Both of them put up a 50 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. King hit 10 fours and a six in his inning.
After King departure, the scoring rate goes too slow. In the end Fabien Allen (21 runs) and Raymon Reifer (20 runs) took the team total to 152 runs by losing 5 wickets in 20 overs.
Dwaine Pretorious took 2 wickets. Imran Tahir, Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd got 1 wicket each.
Saim Ayub (85 runs) again gives his team a solid start in the beginning. He along with Matthew Nandu (37 runs) put 112 runs for the 1st wicket. These two already put the foundation of victory for their team. Ayub hit his 3rd half century in a row and hit 5 fours and 5 sixes in his knock. In the end Shai Hope (16 runs) took an easy victory for the Warriors in 18.3 overs and posted 155 runs by losing 3 wickets.
Chris Green, Salman Irshad and Shamar Springer took 1 wicket each.
With this victory Guyana again topped the table with 13 points in 7 matches and they already qualified for the playoffs. While Tallawahs are at 5th spot with 5 points in 8 matches.
Saim Ayub, GAW, Player of the Match
“It’s a match winning knock. I try whenever I score it should be in favour of the team. You have to choose bowlers and assess the pitch and play with the conditions. You can’t hit every ball. Nandu is a talented youngster and played a fabulous innings on debut. The goal is to win the final.”
Brandon King, JT Captain
“I tweaked my groin while batting and hopefully I will be fit for the next game. We started pretty well. The pitch was not easy to bat on. We got 100 in 11 overs which is a good start. Had we got 170-180 would have been nice. I wanted to carry on, I am very disappointed with that. Analyzing the game, we still haven’t had a complete game with the bat.”
Imran Tahir, GAW Captain
“They had a good start, coming back from there. We always can come back and we believe that. We are thinking that they will be getting 180-200 which was difficult as it was keeping low. Kemmo and Motie bowled well. I have been playing franchise cricket around the world, the local players are the thing. Saim has been fantastic for us. We want to improve all the time. I would like to bowl 2nd here at some stage. We are looking forward to that. Thank you GAW family – I come here every year and I have not seen one seat empty.”
