India announced their 15 member squad for the World Cup. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and team’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar through a press conference announced the full squad.
All the players who are there in the Asia Cup squad are also in the World Cup squad except Sanju Samson, Prasidh Krishna and Tilak Varma. KL Rahul who proved his fitness in the training camp at Bengaluru is also selected for the tournament.
They took five batsmen – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav. Gill is looking in top form and will provide a healthy partnership with Rohit. Kohli is also getting his form back and will be dangerous in the ODI format. Iyer and Suryakumar both are strong contenders for the number 4 position, but Iyer might go ahead than Surya as his stats are good as compared to him.
Two wicket keepers – Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul. Rahul has already returned from the injury and Kishan is looking good in the ODI format. Ishan already won the Player of the series during the West Indies tour in ODI and showed a great knock against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
Four all-rounders – Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur. Pandya and Jadeja already shows their worth in each format they played and became a valuable asset in the death overs. Whereas Axar also shows his worth the matches he played but due to Jadeja’s consistency he get less chance. Thakur who is probably taken to strengthen the batting line up till number 8, might get a chance when there will be a requirement of more batters in the team.
Three pacers – Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shami. Bumrah who recently made his comeback through the Ireland series and showed a brilliant performance there. Siraj is the only Indian bowler in the top 10 ranking of bowlers. He showed his greater consistency in the first 10 overs of the innings where his wicket-taking ability is commendable. Shami who takes wickets when the team requires the most and eventually makes him the most trustable bowler in difficult situations.
One Spinner – Kuldeep Yadav. He is the only leg spinner selected. Other spinners will be Jadeja and Axar. His recent brilliant performance got him selected in the team.
According to World Cup schedule India will play their first match against Australia on 8th October at Chennai.
