India begins the World Cup campaign with total domination

A one-sided victory registered by team India in their first T20 World Cup after defeating Ireland by 8 wickets.

Ireland scored 96/6 in 16 overs and in reply India chased down the target easily in 12.2 overs and scored 97/2.

Rohit Sharma after winning the toss, elected to bowl first.

The top order of the Irish line-up failed miserably and they departed to the pavilion one after the other. Gareth Delany was the top scorer from the side with 26 runs. He along with Joshua Little (14 runs) scored the highest partnership (27 runs) of the match for the team.

The men in blue were looking charged from the start as the bowlers didn’t give much space to Irish batters to score runs easily. Hardik Pandya shone in his bowling after grabbing 3 wickets in 4 overs by giving away only 27 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was immensely dangerous in his 3 overs spells by giving away only 6 runs and took 2 wickets, in which one maiden over was also there.

Arshdeep Singh also took 2 wickets while Mohammad Siraj and Axar Patel got 1 wicket each.

In the chase, the team lost Virat Kohli (1 run) early. But the skipper had some other plans. Rohit scored a brilliant 52 runs in 37 balls and hit 4 fours and 3 sixes in his knock. But unfortunately he got hurt due to some problem in his arm. Then Rishabh Pant (36 runs not out) with a six got par the targeted score.

Mark Adair and Benjamin White got 1 wicket each.
