Harmanpreet Kaur led MI to the playoffs of 2024 WPL

Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Harmanpreet Kaur displayed a dominating batting performance. Her brilliant performance led to a 7 wickets victory against Gujarat Giants (GG).

When Mumbai met Gujarat in their last encounter, they also showed full dominance as they registered 5 wickets victory against them.

After winning the toss, Giants opted to bat first.

A great partnership built between skipper Beth Mooney (66 runs) and Dayalan Hemalatha (74 runs) of 121 runs for the 2nd wicket. During the time of their batting, they took the run rate over 10. Mooney played 35 balls and hit 8 fours and 3 sixes whereas Hemalatha played 40 balls and hit 9 fours and 2 sixes.

Due to the huge contributions of these two, the team finally put up a huge 190 runs total in 20 overs by losing 7 wickets.

Saika Ishaque got 2 wickets. Hayley Matthews, Shabnim Ismail, Pooja Vastrakar and S Sanjana got 1 wicket each.

As the target was huge, therefore the opener Yastika Bhatia (49 runs) played the way the team needed. But it was captain Harmanpreet (95 runs not out) who got the last smile for the team. She played 48 balls and hit 10 fours and 5 sixes. In one over of Sneh Rana, she took 24 runs in that over.

It can be easily seen how dominating Harmanpreet was in her batting. The 3rd wicket fell at 98 runs and then Amelia Kerr (12 runs not out) came, where a brilliant 93 runs partnership built between them. The contribution of Amelia in that partnership was only 93 runs and the skipper took the charge against the bowlers.

Therefore, Mumbai got the target scored in 19.5 overs and scored 191 runs by losing 3 wickets.

With this victory they became the first team who qualified for the playoffs in the WPL 2024. They are currently having 10 points and are at the top in the points table whereas Gujarat is at last with 2 points.
