There will be a new set of coaching staff which will be headed by Gautam Gambhir, only T Dilip will be seen continuing his services. Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate will be the assistant coaches while Sairaj Bahutule will be the bowling coach for the Sri Lanka series.
The final decision for the coaching staff is still not decided. It will be decided after the Sri Lanka tour. In the series against Sri Lanka, India will play 3 T20s and 3 ODIs which will be led by Suryakumar Yadav (T20) and Rohit Sharma (ODI). The series will kick start from July 27th and will end on August 7th.
Earlier according to some reports it suggested that the demands made by Gambhir for the coaching staff was not approved by the BCCI. During a recent press conference when the head coach was asked did his proposal was denied by the BCCI, to this he replied,
“Really happy with the BCCI. They have agreed to most of the things I have asked for. I was really surprised when I was reading all the news. Abhishek, as assistant coach, Ryan, as assistant coach. I feel there could be assistant coaches working and focussing on all three departments rather than one specific department. That’s the reason we now have two assistant coaches. That’s the way we will go forward as well. Yes, we will get to know the exact support staff after the Sri Lanka tour.”
He further added about the finalization of the coaching staff, he added,
“This is going to be the crux of the support staff. As I said, we still have one month after the Sri Lanka tour. We will try and finalise after the Sri Lanka tour. But, I have worked with people like Abhishek Nayar, Ryan Ten Doeschate very closely. In the last two months, especially in the IPL, I have enjoyed working with them. They are thorough professionals.”
Hope Ryan and Abhishek can have a successful stint. Hopefully, we can have a successful tenure as coaches. I am really looking forward to working with the rest of the other guys as well. I have had some really good feedback from the players about the other guys. I am really looking forward to working with them.”
It is expected that Morne Morkel will be the bowling coach and might get the announcement before the Bangladesh tour (started in September). It is also being said that Morkel’s announcement got delayed as he is currently with his father in Australia since his father is little unwell.
Whereas Nayar and Doeschate might get their positions along with Dilip after the tour.
