Gambhir breaks silence on his relationship with Kohli

The most anticipated question in the past few months is how it will be when Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli will share the same dressing room after a long time.

There were many heated scenarios between the two players in the IPL. But as Gautam became the head coach of the team, many people wanted to know about how both of them will manage to work together.

To this question about the relationship with Virat, Gautam replied,

“Good for the TRP, but my relationship is not public. What kind of a relationship I share with Virat Kohli… I think it’s between two mature individuals. On the field, everyone has got the right to fight for their own jersey and come back to a winning dressing room.

But at the moment, we’re representing India, representing 140 crore Indians and I’m sure we’re going to be on the same page and try to make India proud. I share a very good relationship off the field and will continue to do that. But yes, to make it more public what kind of a relationship… I think it’s between two individuals.”

He further added that he was in touch with Kohli through some chats after the got selected for the post of head coach of team India, he said,

“I’ve had a lot of chats with him… we’ve shared messages after my appointment, but as I said, the most important thing is we both are going to be working extremely hard to make India proud. And that’s our job. It’s not important what we discussed, how many chats have I had with him, after my announcement or before my announcement or during the game, after the games. Sometimes, just because we want headlines, it’s not important.”

The head coach further added why he selected Rohit and Virat, not Bumrah, he said,

“Workload for someone like Jasprit Bumrah is important. Now that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will play only two formats, I expect them to be available for most games.”

The Indian head coach also revealed about the availability of Virat and Rohit in the 2027 ODI World Cup and told the media it depends on their fitness level and the chief selector Ajit Agarkar revealed the reason behind opting Suryakumar Yadav over Hardik Pandya for the leadership role in the T20 format.

India is going to play 3 T20s and 3 ODIs against Sri Lanka in Colombo which will start from July 27th and the squad for both the formats has been announced.
