Ferguson’s stunner got a farewell win for New Zealand

Finally the tournament for New Zealand ended on a happy note after they defeated Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 7 wickets. Lockie Ferguson just created a world record in his spell.

PNG scored 78/10 in 19.4 overs and in reply New Zealand chased down the target quite easily in 12.2 overs and scored 79/3.

Kiwis registered their first victory of this tournament in their last encounter when they destroyed Uganda in both the departments whereas PNG was beaten heavily by Afghanistan in their last encounter.

Kane Williamson after winning the toss chooses to bowl first.

A poor batting performance was seen again by the Papuans players as only three batters touched the double digit mark. Charles Amini was the highest scorer from the side with 17 runs and took 25 balls to reach there.

The two batters were Norman Vanua (14 runs) and Sese Bau (12 runs). Due to their low batting performance they were unable to touch the 100 runs mark.

Lockie Ferguson bowled the most economical spell in the history of T20 cricket and the best in the T20 World Cup. In his 4 overs of spell he got 4 maidens, he didn’t concede a single run and got 3 wickets there. Trent Boult, Ish Sodhi and Tim Southee got 2 wickets each. Mitchell Santner got 1 wicket.

In the chase, Kiwis lost 2 wickets early at 20 runs on the board. Devon Conway scored 35 runs in 32 balls. Skipper Williamson remained unbeaten on 18 runs along with Daryl Mitchell who scored 19 runs and took the team to the victory.
